Pi day dinner party

Greg and I had some friends over for dinner last night. One friend is a vegetarian who is allergic to onions, so those were my initial parameters (no meat, no onions), but of course, being a Co-op food geek, I had to add the stipulation that my produce be at the very least seasonal, if not local.

Here's the menu I came up with:

from The Joy of Cooking:

Bring 3 cups chicken broth and 3/4 cup cooked rice to a boil. Meanwhile, whisk 2 eggs and 2 Tbsp lemon juice until they're just blended. Temper your egg mixture with 2 Tbsp hot broth, then drizzle the egg mixture into the hot-but-not-boiling broth stirring all the while so the egg shreds instead of flowering. I think that's how they put it. I had little egg flowers in mine but I didn't mind. Also, I used veggie broth and I thought it tasted fine, but I'm a philistine like that ;)
