China, day 4 (July 2, 2006)

… back onto the journals. The "Current Location" is the location the journal is about, not where I actually am (home). All of the pictures are up: Trip to China 2006 gallery (thanks to Jon for the gallery space).

In the morning, we went to Wangfujing Lu, which is a shopping area near the center of Beijing. Part of the street is pedestrian only. There was an art display on that part. Supposedly, the random statues were supposed to be representative of Olympic spirit for the 2008 Beijing games, but they looked to me like&hellip random statues:

Enough said.

We, of course, did some shopping, but mostly we were walking around and getting lost exploring the area around Wangfujing Lu.

We we heading in the direction of the Forbidden City, which is the center of Beijing. It used to be the winter palace of the emperor. Now it is a big tourist attraction. Currently, it is under construction. Most likely, in order to ensure it is in great condition for the 2008 games.

I did not find the Forbidden City particularly interesting. Then again, we did not have a tour guide. Without one, all there is to see is a bunch of buildings. Well, and some interesting signs:

Just what exactly is a "Reataurant" anyway?

We left the Forbidden City and went to wonder around Wangfujing Lu a bit more. Unfortunately, I did not buy any chopsticks or "Pickup Camera Equipment" when I had the chance:

That was a relatively quiet day for us.

To be continued…
