I hope one of the local museum's will snap it up or at least someone with the money who will then lend it to the museum for public display.

That's a very fancy waistcoat for a sailor! :)

I like the idea that it's decorated with Australian flowers - there seems to have been a general fascination with new plants at that time.

Yes I was a bit suss about the statement that he wore it in 1770 the year he landed in Oz. Banks hadn't had time to collect any Australian plants so unless he had a sailor on hand who was a dab hand at embroidery I doubt he wore it then. He may have had it made at a later date.
