Wherein Toshiba manages to FAIL even harder

I didn't think it was really possible, but Toshiba has surpassed itself in the fail department. [ Original FailMy laptop was delivered today. I was OK with the turn-around time, all things considered - it was shorter than what they'd originally told me. Fed-Ex was late with the delivery, but that's hardly Toshiba's doing. What is Toshiba's doing ( Read more... )

I would definitely recommend the avoidance route. I loved my original Toshiba laptop (it's what I've resorted back to during all of this), but the grief I've gotten with this new one has turned me off Toshiba completely.

And, you're right...it's very much the "this can't be happening" feeling.

Wow, this whole ordeal sounds like such a headache. If I ever go back to PCs, I'll definitely be avoiding Toshiba. That's awful customer service.

It's a complete headache and I feel very trapped. They have all the cards but one - word of mouth. As iwannasee2 put it, they have my money, I have a paperweight.

You have a macbook? How have your dealings with Apple been? (Have you had to deal with them yet?)

Yeah, I have a Macbook Pro. So far, I haven't had any problems that have required me to send it off for repair, but I've heard Applecare has good customer service. When the hard drive on my old Macbook (the one owned by my department) died, the box to send it in for repair arrived the very next day after I called them. Of course, I didn't end up sending it to them because I needed to send the HD off to another company to recover data off it, but the rep I spoke to on the phone was very helpful. Another friend of our family got a Macbook which has apparently had several problems. She wasn't happy with how many problems the computer had, but she did say that Apple customer service was very good about it. You can also take a Mac in to get checked out at your local Apple store. They might not have the parts to fix it and have to send it off anyway, but at least you can see someone face to face ( ... )

That's the thing, I always have, too. My last Toshiba laptop was 4 years old, and is still working well enough that I've been using it while this is going on (saving me from the dreaded PC that's even older). Mike, my mom, and her hubby all have Toshiba laptops, too. And, aside from some software/Vista issues, haven't had problems.

I think it's a case of typically quality equipment, poor customer service/relations. Any piece of equipment can have problems. It's inevitable. What Toshiba doesn't get right is taking care of the customer when that happens.

PS: Pardon the bit of icon fail there. That wasn't aimed at you, LOL.
