As soon as Takaki Yuya opened his eyes, he was puzzled. He wondered why he was alive here, staring at the white ceiling above him. He was supposed to have died from an accident when he rushed to save a kid in the middle of the road.

Takaki sat up and look around the room, taking in the beige curtains that were partially covering the window and the bundle of flowers that was nicely place inside the vase. He slowly got down from the bed when he heard the door opening. A nurse came in with a clipboard in her hands and walked past Takaki as if she was ignoring his presence. She took down the heart rate and other information that was needed before walking out of the room.

It was then that Takaki grasp the situation at hand. He turned around and saw himself lying on the bed with an oxygen mask over his face. The him standing there wasn’t real. It was his ghost.

He had no idea how this happened nor does he know how to make everything return back to normal. He decided to at least try to get some information and left the room, walking along the lonely corridor. Takaki passed by a particular room and saw that a boy was sitting on the bed, looking out of the window with empty eyes.

Takaki thought that nobody was able to see him but clearly he was wrong when the boy turned to him and tilted his head curiously at him. He thought that somebody was behind him and turned to check but there wasn’t anybody behind him. Takaki stepped into the room slowly while the boy’s eyes never left his.

----------

Arioka Daiki had been staying in this hospital for as long as he can remember and when he saw a boy standing outside his ward, he felt a surge of joy wave through him. Nobody ever come to visit or talk to him so when he saw the unknown boy outside his ward, he couldn’t take his eyes of him.

Daiki didn’t need to be a genius to realize that there was something weird about this boy in front of him who was slowly getting closer and closer for the boy in front of him was translucent. Daiki could see the white wall through the boy but for some reason, he wasn’t scared.

“You can see me?” The boy spoke as he stopped walking, leaving quite a distance between him and Daiki.

“No I can’t.” Daiki turned away and heard the boy made a confused sound. “I’m kidding. Obviously I can see you.”

“You’re not human right?”

“I…don’t know about that too.” The boy looked at his own hands, “But I guess I am not.”

Daiki stared at the boy whom seemed to be in deep thoughts and was startled when he suddenly looked up from his hands to look at him.

“What’s your name? I’m Takaki Yuya.” He brought a hand out, wanting to shake hands with Daiki but took it back immediately. He couldn’t touch anything after all.

“Arioka Daiki.”

“Arioka Daiki…Dai-chan then!” Takaki grinned. “Don’t you feel scared seeing something so…occult?”

Daiki shook his head and gave a small smile, one which charmed Takaki a lot. “I just don’t I guess, probably because I finally have someone to talk to now.” Takaki nodded his head then moved to sit on Daiki’s bed. They started talking to each other about anything and everything under the sky.

----------

“Ne, Yuya?” Daiki turned to the ghost beside him that was humming a song.

“What Dai-chan?”

“Are you not going back? It’s been a month already.” They were now staring at each other.

“Do you want me to go back so quickly? You’ll be alone you know.” Takaki teased the younger boy.

Daiki rolled his eyes, “I’ll be more than glad to be alone than having you pester me all day.”

“So mean!” Takaki pouted before those lips turned into a frown. “I can’t go back even if I want to. I don’t know how.”

Daiki looked at Takaki sadly and brought his hands up, wanting to console the older boy but as expected, his hand just went pass Takaki’s head. He wants to help Takaki to move on but at the same time, he doesn’t want to. He likes Takaki presence more than anyone can imagine and he isn’t ready to let this important person (or ghost) leave his side anytime.

Daiki had fell for Takaki too hard to recover and how he wished all this could just be a dream and when he wakes up, Takaki Yuya with a human body could be standing there and maybe he could confess his love to him and they would be together.

“Dai-chan? What are you thinking about?” Takaki rested his head on his hands and looks at Daiki.

“Nothing much..” Daiki choked on his own voice, getting too emotional over his thoughts.

“What’s wrong?” Takaki asked concernedly. “Am I really such a bother to you? I’ll go so don’t cry.”

Daiki shook his head and gripped tightly onto the sheets. “You don’t know Yuya… you don’t..”

“Then tell me about it? I’ll try and help-”

“You can’t do anything about it!” Daiki raised his voice.

“I like you. I like you so much that I don’t want you to leave my side at all! But it’s not like we can be together.” Daiki let out a bitter laugh. “That’s why I want you to hurry up and just move on so that you can be free and I won’t have this unrequited love on you anymore. But it hurts just to imagine you leaving me…” Daiki cried as he buried his head in his knees.

“Daiki…” Takaki stared at Daiki with a sad expression, wishing that he was able to bring Daiki into his embrace.

“I do like you too Dai-chan. More than you can imagine. I don’t want to leave you too.” Takaki said softly. “I wish I was a normal human too. I wish I could touch you and hold you. But I just don’t know how to make everything better.” Daiki looked up with trails of tears on his cheeks.

“I love you so much Daiki.” And those were the last words Takaki uttered before everything blacked out.

----------

“Dai-chan~ I’m here again!” Takaki’s voice could be heard from the corridor as the door slide open.

“You’re 1 hour 32 minutes and 16 seconds late Takaki Yuya.” Daiki looked at the clock then stared at Takaki. “Where’s my food?”

“You’re so mean!” Takaki pouted as he placed the packets of food on the table. “Even after that fateful confession, you are still so mean to me. At least give me a kiss!” Takaki palmed Daiki’s face and forced him to look at him.

“D-don’t talk about that!” Daiki blushed furiously. He moved swiftly and gave a small peck on Takaki’s lips before digging into the bags full of food.

3 weeks ago when they both confessed to each other and the world just black out on them, it was said that a few doctors and nurses had rushed into Takaki’s room as his body was reacting weirdly. After a few hours of check-ups and days of observation, Takaki Yuya was conscious. It was a miracle as no one ever thought that Takaki would be able to ever open his eyes anymore but he proved them wrong.

The first thing Takaki did was to pinch himself to make sure he wasn’t dreaming then running to Daiki’s ward only to sigh in relief that those memories were not a dream. Both of them had no idea what had happened nor did they tell anyone about it.

Naturally, with some shedding of tears and huge wide smiles, the two got together and a week after, news of Daiki’s condition improving greatly came. No words could describe the amount of happiness they felt and now, Daiki was having his last night in this hospital where he grew up and met Takaki.

“Yuya, I love you so much.” Daiki smiled happily, startling the older boy.

“I love you too Daiki.” Takaki grinned and leaned in to kiss Daiki.
