There's only one solution to a problem like this - keep writing entries in LiveJournal (if you run out of actual inspiration memes are good) until it goes away!
Sounds to me like you need to get your manager(s) to understand the position. Then you need to get them to agree that you start with the bug-from-hell because otherwise you'll never be able to concentrate (alternatively lock yourself in the room whilst you do the code stuff).
Of course, how you go about these two things is the difficult bit. Do you have a decent manager to approach ?
Or the other option of getting somebody else to dothe bugfix. If they are that critical then I'm sure somebody else could be found to do one of them...
The trouble is it's a platform bugfix. The bug doesn't happen unless you're working on the exact hardware config ao_lai is.
My view would be that he's doing the right thing already: working on the development task. Yes, it is aggravating when people come and distract you, but at least once you've told them you're not working on the bug they'll go away eventually. Once the development's done in can be tested by other people in parallel with working on the bug.
Plus - I know a certain amount about this particular bug and it's not even clear to me that it's ao_lai's problem per se.
Well, the latest PMs meeting ended shortly afterwards, and allegedly the bug takes priority. IMHO, this may mean that the development doesn't get done, a view which may be expressed in my weekly report...

Possibly due to various people having gone home now, but I'm not complaining... :)
