as for your actual post.. It's always a huge temptation for people who have proven through their work that they posess great knowlege and the ability to comprehend and gather insight into things to assume that they know more than they really do, on many topics. Franklin was indeed brilliant, and even a philospher in his own right. Human moral shtuff wasn't really his strong point.
