My friend is ok. His house is ok. He's ok. That is a huge burden off of my chest. They did not have a huge amount of damage, though there were quite a few trees that decided to land on homes. Power is still out, of course, but I got ahold of him through an acquaintance down there who has wireless internet.

I feel much better now.

Well, I have reached a new scale of worried in the past few hours. I learned that the entire city of New Orleans has been evacuated. That is 1 MILLION people. Never before has an entire city been evacuated. And you know what? New Orleans will probably never be inhabited again. The entire city has been turned into a gigantic cesspool. I don't know if you guys have been paying attention to the news lately, but the latest hurrican, Katrina, has become a level FIVE hurricane, the highest, with SUSTAINED winds of 170 mph. That's just craziness. Half of the Gulf Coast is evacuating. MILLIONS of people are running for their lives. Both sides of the highway are now going one direction ( Read more... )
