I'm surprised about your Foreign Service essay grade since I know you read a ton, really enjoy writing, and have even worked on novels in your free time in the past. Do you find that your writing isn't as good anymore after spending so much time in Korea? I know that's the case for me since I barely have to write in English anymore. I had to write my thesis in English but to German people my English is amazing so I get by. I hope you at least got comments on your essay so you know what to do next time.

The thing is, based on what people on the internet say, I'm pretty sure that all of my experience with writing papers is the exact reason I got a bad score. The essay is supposed to be really, really basic- high school level, 5 paragraphs, intro, body, conclusion, etc. I haven't written that style of paper since, well, high school. These days I write 15 pages papers where 1 paragraph for an introduction or conclusion, or 3 paragraphs for a body simply isn't enough. Oh well. There's always next year :)
