If you are latino, kind of a jerk, and in an all black school you have a good chance of being  jumped and beaten by at least 5 black students when you enter the bathroom

Also, sometimes when you call home to say a kid is failing, his dad seems really angry on the phone, and he comes in the next day with a black eye.

And then you die a little bit inside.

Oh my gosh.

Geez, it must make you want to stop time so the kid doesn't have an end of semester and wait for face-to-face parent-teacher conferences to tell the parents all the bad news, too.

You need relationships with parents. You can't just give parents bad news, though sometimes that is unavoidable. If they trust you as part of a team building their child, which requires good phone calls home too, then they will take bad news with much less frustration.
