It’s 30 more minutes until midnight as he looked at his watch. Here in front of a giant Christmas tree, in the middle of a town square, he’s waiting for someone. His mind starts to wandering and reasoning why the other hasn’t come yet. They had made a promise of spending the Christmas eve together since they haven’t got to spend some time alone with just the two of them. Not because they didn’t want to but mostly because they can’t helped it. Their hectic schedules made it impossible for them. With the album promotions, overseas concerts, music programs, variety shows and many others, it’s lucky enough if they can get a day-off. And even if they lucky enough to get a day-off, they already too tired to do anything but sleeping. Lack of quality times together made both of them decided that no matter what happens, they will spend their Christmas eve together.
It’s their favorite holiday of the year. Joyful spirit that lifted up everyone’s mood, the good old Christmas songs that keep being played all over the town, Christmas decorations in every corner of the town, cakes, candies, all kind of Christmas sweets. It all screams only one thing. Joy. How could anyone hate Christmas? He will never hate Christmas for sure. Not him too. It’s too special for them. Christmas not only brings joy for them. Christmas gave them the most special gift one could ever ask, someone to love and loved them. They found their soul mate on Christmas. That’s why they made a promise to spend the Christmas eve together every year.
Donghae keeps looking at his watch. 15 more minutes. He wonders what makes the other haven’t showed up till now. Insecurity starts to eat him. Did he have an accident? Did he fall asleep? Did he forget about their promise? Did he start to get bored with him? Did he.. So many bad thoughts across his mind and he can’t help not to feel sad. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. He should be happy on Christmas day. But as he waiting for a particular person, tears at the brim of his eyes threaten to fall anytime. He tried to call before but he couldn’t reach him. Stupid monkey. He forgot to recharge his cell. Again. Donghae is getting anxious as the time goes by, his eyes wandering looking for a certain monkey-like dancer. Is he really forgetting him?
Donghae knows he should trust him more, but he also knows that lately they haven’t been in a good shape. Schedules became their excuse not to talk to each other, lack of sleeping was the excuse not to see each other, and worn-out body made them can’t listen to each other. Their lack of communication made him think again about their relationship. They both started to grow closer to other members, instead of sharing feeling with each other, they found other companion. That fact made him uneasy. Did he really start to lose Hyukjae? Did Hyukjae found someone new? Did he fall out of love with him?
The thought of Hyukjae fall out of love with him scared him and with that, his cheeks are getting wet by his tears. He knows he will looked like a crazy person, standing in front of the biggest Christmas tree in Seoul, in the middle of the night, crying like some silly girl dumped by her boyfriend, but he doesn’t care. Coz all he cares about right now is having his Hyukkie to be with him right this moment and hopefully, still madly in love with him. He misses him a lot. He misses their time together. He knows it wasn’t Hyukjae’s entirely fault if he ever gets tired with him. Recently, he’s not too clingy to his boyfriend like he used to be. Maybe Hyukjae will think that he was the one who get tired, but in reality, he’s just afraid that if he’s get too clingy, Hyukjae will get bored with him. Then again, this is just his anxious mind. He will never know unless he asks Hyukjae himself. If he ever comes.
“You know.. You look like a girl getting dump by her boyfriend here”
Donghae jumps when he hears the voice from behind him. He turns around immediately and looks at the person who just came. His mind stops to wandering.
“Wha-“
“Wait! Let me take a breath first”
Hyukjae is standing in front of him, panting, with his hand on his knee and the other hand place right in front of Donghae, telling him to stop talking. He looks like he just did some marathon, sweating and lacking of air in his lung.
“What e-“
Donghae tries to talk again when he sees Hyukjae stops to pant. But he never manages to finish his sentence as Hyukjae beats him first.
“I’m sorry”
He moves forward and suddenly he hugs Donghae tightly, one hand around his waist, the other hold his back shoulder.
“I’m sorry I’m late. Stupid PD! He made me retake the scenes all over again just because he wanted to add some guests at the last minutes. If it wasn’t because of Teuki-hyung, I would still be stuck there. I tried to finish it as fast as I could and soon as it fin-“
Hyukjae’s speech was cut by a sudden pair of lips landing on his lips. Donghae holds Hyukjae’s face and without thinking, he kisses him and stops his rambling. He doesn’t need to hear any excuse, he just needs Hyukjae and now, Hyukjae is in front of him.
At first, it was just a sweet kiss showing how much they missed each other, but soon, the kiss turns into a passionate one. Donghae joins his arms around Hyukjae’s neck while Hyukjae’s hands hold tightly around his waist and his nape, bringing them closer. They only stops when the need of air cannot be resist anymore.
“I love you Hyukkie. I love you so much. I know I have been a bad boyfriend lately but please don’t leave me. I’ll change I-“
Donghae keeps rambling frantically as soon as they stopped kissing, traps in his own anxious thoughts. Hyukjae feels happy when he heard Donghae says he loves him but that soon changes into confusion when he heard the next part.
“Hold on Hae. What do you mean by me leaving you? You know I’ll never leave you. Why would I do that?”
He stares at Donghae, forcing him to look at him when the other just keeps his head down and answers in a small insecure voice.
“I know.. It’s just.. Lately we haven’t talk much.. I figure maybe you get tired of me.. I.. I just- Sorry”
Tears starts to show on Donghae’s eyes again and within no time, it falls down.
“Hae~”
Hyukjae sighs, cupping Donghae’s face while wiping the tears with his thumbs.
“Hae, you know I love you right? Yes, lately we haven’t been together that much but that doesn’t mean I’m getting tired of you or planning to leave you. We’re both busy and I can’t be selfish no matter how much I want to be with you when I know you need some rest. We both do.”
“Hyukkie..”
“Pabo Donghae, you over thinking too much. Did you miss me that much?”
Hyukjae teases Donghae and tries to enlighten the mood since he doesn’t like to see Donghae’s crying face, especially since he the one who cause it.
“Yahhh! Who makes me waiting here for almost 3 hours in the middle of the town? It’s tiring and it’s cold you know! Luckily, today it’s not snowing”
Donghae pouts while glaring at Hyukjae. Hyukjae chuckles at his boyfriend adorable antiques.
“That’s why I said I’m sorry right?”
He says that whilst hugging his boyfriend, whispering the words. Donghae just let himself being wrapped in Hyukjae’s arms, treasures the warmth the other gives. He couldn’t be happier right now but he still needs to make Hyukjae suffer a bit for making him waiting.
“You have made me waiting for so long. You should be punished.”
“What??! Hey, I’ve been running across the town just to see you. I should get a reward instead. How could you punish me? I thought you love me”
Hyukjae faking a sad face in front of Donghae, whining how unlucky he was to have a cruel boyfriend who wouldn’t appreciate his effort of running in the middle of the night. He even starts to fake tears, telling that Donghae is the one whose get tired of him. Hearing this, Donghae got panicked and decided not to tease Hyukjae anymore.
“Hyukkie~ I was just joking OK.. I didn’t mean to. Please don’t be mad at me”
He’s got teary again knowing that Hyukjae probably will be mad at him but that doesn’t stay long as soon as he sees his boyfriend laughing at him.
“Yah! Lee Hyukjae!! That’s not funny!”
He shouts at him, feeling annoyed that he’s the one that got teased.
“Ahahaha I’m sorry Hae.. But you should see your face just now”

“Hae? Yaa don’t cry.. I’m sorry OK? I’m just teasing you.. Hae.. please Ha-”
“Ahahahaha gotchaa!! Now you should see your face!”

Both of them laughing at each other, enjoying their time since it’s been so long since they can tease each other like this.

Hyukjae looks into Donghae’s eyes as he pulls Donghae into his arms. He places his right hand into Donghae’s left cheek. Donghae starts to blush by Hyukjae’s intimate stare.

And he closes the gap between them, devouring the boy within his arm, showing each other how much they meant to each other. From far away, the sound of clock telling the midnight has passed can be heard.
