I saw this once before, but when it cropped up again, I decided to take the plunge. Getting me in the mood for Hawaii. :D

Here's the model:

Oh yay! I signed up for this one ages ago, but it was cancelled - the teacher emailed me to say she had the opportunity to get her first COVID shot and I was the only person who had signed up thus far - so she asked if we could cancel it ( ... )

Yes, Wendy. I did wonder if she was the original designer of the painting based on one throwaway line she said (which I can no longer remember the exact phrasing of) but I wasn't sure. I'm really surprised this painting hasn't garnered more attention, given how gorgeous it is!

Oh, btw, the paper-towel technique for creating foam at the edge of the water - that wasn't part of the class. I just did it on my own, after seeing the nice results you got from it on other paintings. :)

I heard from another teacher that Yaymaker is STRONGLY discouraging artists from cancelling events even if they only have a couple of studentsThat kind of sucks for them, not getting much money for their time (and I used my last pass for this class, so I'm not sure if that means she didn't get any money from me, either? There must be a reason some teachers don't accept passes), but as a student, it's nice NOT to have a class cancelled. I think I only had that happen once, and it was just rescheduled for about three weeks out in the hopes of garnering ( ... )

I'm not sure what the split it - I did hear one teacher say something about only getting $3 for each student - but I suspect it also depends on if you are running your own show, or working for someone else - how many layers are there between you and the Yaymaker mothership.

I have noticed that some hosts won't accept the passes - I've been trying to see if there is a pattern to it - my conclusion thus far is that if the painting is complicated and/or likely to go over 2 hours, some teachers either won't accept passes or bump the price up to $25.

My painting yesterday evening had more than EIGHTY people signed up - and more than sixty of them on the zoom call (this host records all her events, so lots of people sign up and then just watch the video later)

That's a lovely painting.

Good to hear you found a place for your dad. Hope you manage to get him over to your part of the country without too many problems.

I watched Loki as well ... woohoo ...

I loved the bit when Loki was facing the guy with the stack of paper.

"Please verify this is everything you've ever said."
"What?"
*another sheet of paper comes down and the guy puts it on the pile*
"This is crazy!"

:-D

And thank you! <3
