I'll admit, ortho ticyclen is something I've never taken (mostly due to the fact that, up until this year, I was unable to swallow pills of any kind, shape, or size), but I have friends who have, and they tell pretty much the same thing you're experiencing: depression and lack of libido

Thanks Ashley, I appreciate the thoughts. The frustrating part is, I did research the many kinds of pills, and decided what I would handle best, and went to my doctor, and she said, no, you're taking this one, it's better for acne. End of story. No discussion. Research wasted. And I don't have a new doctor yet, I just know I need to find one. And I'm leaving town again in a week. Very seriously considering dropping my pills after this pack, so my period is where I want it, and then not taking any BC until i get back at Christmas, and then desperately seeking a new doctor.
I have so many friends with willing ears etc, and yet it seems like so few could actually react to this situation - they either have never taken BC, or aren't comfortable discussing libido in any form. Or they're my mom. =P And of course i have a David, but the biggest source of this frustration is that its driving a wedge between us, and yeah. No help there, we can't see eye to eye on it for some reason. Its crazy.
Argh, sorry that you're having Dr. and contraceptive issues.
For 12 years, I've used Lo Ovral (or Lo-Ogestrel, the generic version), and it has worked well for me. I've always had pretty strong mood swings (I'm probably somewhat manic-depressive), and Lo-Ogestrel didn't make it any worse at all. And it didn't make me any more or less sex-crazed, though perhaps it did "help" my libido in knowing I was very unlikely to get pregnant. But with my family having weird periods I've recently started having heavy withdrawal bleeding (not technically a period, though that's still what people generally call it).
So I'm trying one called Loestrin. It's supposed to make periods VERY light and should otherwise have about the same effect as Lo-Ogestrel. I don't know how I'll do on it yet, as I start on Sunday.
Oh, if you want to browse a LJ community where a lot of people share knowledge and personal experiences from various BC methods, check out birthcontrol.
I'm on my 6th or 7th brand of pill at this point. I've had just about every side effect listed (except maybe hair loss, but when it comes down to it, hair loss on me probably wouldn't be noticeable). My doctor switches me every time I complain. I've had mood swings, depression, nausea, constant bleeding, and a low sex drive. The most important thing with birth control is that you need to find one that's right and that will probably take a few tries. If you've got any time in JC, you might try checking out Dr. Bertotti at First Choice Health Care. She's absolutely great and will actually spend time listening to you

Now if only I could get Dr. suggestions from someone who didn't have the same general practitioner as me...
I've been seeing Dr. Bertotti since I was 7 or 8, and love her dearly, and wrote to her from summer camp cause she asked me to when she did my physicals so I could go to said camp, but mom and I are both of the opinion that she is finally just getting old. No offense, but she IS the doctor that wouldn't listen. =(
(as in, the old one was doing great for me until my recent problem...anyway...odd that she's the one giving you problems, Aongel. Hmmm...she might be "losing it" indeed :-()
