Actually, one of the online lists of rat names included Bubonic, Boo Boo for short. Rat people are great. I've seen people who only have hairless ones and name them after House Elves, And people with a series of different ones named accurately after LOTR characters(ie the hairless was gollum, the grey and white was gandalf, the white was shadowfax) I like some of the ideas like naming them after harry potter animals, or NimH Rats, or Redwall ones, its just SO overdone.
I've been throwing down some of the awfullest ideas like this: Ooh ooh we could call them twixt and tween, so that when they are just existing they'll BEtwixt and BEtween! or well, we could call the black and white oreo, and the golden and white one twinkie... David's suggestion was meeper and squeaker. Enunciated rather fairiely. =)
Oh, and you remember those squares of fleece you sent me? They finally have a home. They are going to be rat hammocks! They are just the right size, and will get cuddled all their days. Some are going to be a rat tube slide too. =)
A BUNCH of my LJ friends are rat owners/enthusiasts, and I can see if they'll give advice and whatnot if you'd like.
One of the pros of rats over ferrets is that ferrets tend to get this strong musky odor, and not everyone likes that.
For some reason, Harry and Ron come to mind. Maybe it's just because I've been reading the entire series of HP books recently (and now in the middle of 7).
I've been doing a LOT of research online, and gotten a lot of information/advice. There's not a lot of help I need at this point, unless they live IN my neighborhood and can tell me where, LOCALLY they get their supplies, because the local pet store is BAD. They only sell rats as feeders, and when I commented I might buy some as pets, wouldn't even CONSIDER letting me handle them first. Only purchasing going on there is litter/bedding, yogurt treats, and a water bottle. They only carry the crappy brand of rat food, too. =(
And male rats are muskier than the females, but yeah, even descented ferrets have a smell. I don't mind it tho. Megan and Drews Loki is a sweetie. =)
Be sure to hold them everyday! If you go one day without they could get grumpy and bite you so hold them even if you are sick or tired or anything. Boy's names: Bogart, Ratburn, Tarbit, Twitchy and Todd.

And actually, ferrets require a lot of out-of-cage time too; they get a little manic if they're cooped up too long. Bad times.
