I need to vent about writing for just a second. Don't mind me.
I am writing in third person limited from the perspective of a character who uses very casual, blunt language. I realised, midway through, that I am using the kind of language that he wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole. There's no salvaging any of it, it's all ridiculous and... not flowery but stylised. And it's not bad writing, either. I don't want to have to go through all of it again but I can't in good conscience let myself continue in this vein. Alas, the woes of the competent self-editor!
I know it's important to kill your darlings when it's for the good of the writing, and I know I need to do it, and I'm going to do it, and it'll turn out for the best in the end. I'm just going to complain about it until then.
