Prompt: Ryo is troubled because he hasn't kissed anyone before and asks Yoko for help.
Yoko finds Ryo sitting quietly out on the steps leading up to the incredibly small diner. It's the boy's twentieth birthday but he looks so miserable that Yoko has a mild panic attack at the thought that he'd gotten the date wrong.
But when Ryo looks up at him, cracks a smile and says, "Thanks for the party", Yoko is confused.
"Did something happen?"
Ryo scoots over mutely as he takes a seat, wooden boards creaking under their combined weight.
"Uchi was saying something just now. This morning, actually-" Ryo stops, frowning up at the sky as he crosses his arms. "Ah, you know what, nevermind."
"Why, what's wrong?"
Ryo studies him for a bit then turns his gaze back up. "He said- he wouldn't stop saying-"
He breaks off again with just the hint of a pout that Yoko can't help but laugh. He's turned twenty but is still so child-like that Yoko feels the need to soothe all his troubles away for him, to wipe at that little crease between his brows until it disappears and never comes back.
"What, did he tell you about it too?" Ryo asks grumpily and Yoko has no idea what he's talking about.
"Wha-"
"That I've never kissed anyone before," Ryo says in a rush, then makes a face. "That idiot, that ass."
"That- wait, what-"
"I know." The miserable look creeps onto the younger's face again. "I'm already twenty, what the hell am I doing."
Yoko's not entirely sure how to handle this completely unexpected turn of events so he settles for doing what he does best.
"Um," Yoko stutters intelligently. "Um."
"If you're going to tease me about it," Ryo sniffs, "then save it. I've had more than enough from Uchi already."
Behind them, three more than a little drunk boys start singing snippets of their debut song off-tune, between hiccups and what Yoko sincerely hopes are happy tears. Ryo just grimaces.
"I just… I don't get why it bothers you." Yoko intends for it to sound like a mature statement because it is and it's not something for Ryo to be moping about, but his voice comes out high on the last syllable, almost like it's a question, and Ryo looks at him weirdly.
"I mean, if, you know, if you find that special someone, then you'll get your kiss," someone says and Yoko's mildly horrified when he realizes that it's him who's babbling. "But if you haven't, it just means you haven't found someone worthy to take your lip virginity away-" and here Ryo gawks but Yoko ignores him in favor of letting everything out so he can finally shut up now brain thank you very much "-and it's just nothing to be worried about. Really. I bet Uchi hasn't been kissed before too- he's just teasing you so he doesn't feel bad about it."
Yoko takes a deep breath and bites on the insides of his cheeks to keep from saying things he shouldn't. The tips of his ears are burning but he can't look away when Ryo just stares at him, corners of his mouth turned up.
"Okay."
"…okay?"
"Okay." Ryo chuckles, knitted brows all gone. "Okay, thank you."
Yoko doesn't feel the need to tell Ryo that he's never been kissed before either and he thinks that maybe this conversation is over and that he really should be getting back and making sure that the others haven't given Uchi any alcohol and apologize to the shopkeeper if they've broken anythin-
"But you know," Ryo starts again and this time his voice is serious, honesty in his eyes as Yoko blinks absently at him. "There's only one person I've actually ever wanted to kiss."
Yoko's pulse ratchets up alarmingly at the look in Ryo's eyes and he hauls himself up unsteadily.
"Is that so," he manages to squeak out after a momentary pause and absolutely does not bolt into the safety of the diner.
Yoko doesn't tell Ryo that there's only one person he's ever wanted to kiss too.
---
Ryo asks him if he wants to go out for dinner a month or so later, just the two of them. It may or may not be a date.
Yoko says yes.
