Subject: RP Log: Tezuka Kunimitsu & Kaidoh Kaoru
Rating: PG
When: Not too long ago; the other day
Where: Kaidoh's apartment
Summary: Tezuka goes to Kaidoh to talk about White Day.
Tezuka glanced at the door down the hallway. He’d managed to make it up to Kaidoh’s floor but he had stopped next to the elevator. He knew he needed to speak to Kaidoh about things. To figure out a solution to this strange situation that had arose since White Day. Hard to believe it’d been almost a month ago that things had all gone insane thanks to that party. Taking a deep breath, Tezuka strode over to the second year’s door and knocked.
Kaidoh had returned from his daily run and had just gotten just gotten out of the shower.
He jumped when he heard the knock at his door, and quickly pulled on a shirt that had been hanging across his desk chair. He went over to the door and opened it, feeling his heart leap and start to race when he saw that it was Tezuka. He almost wished he hadn't opened.
"T-Tezuka-buchou..."
It almost surprised Tezuka when Kaidoh had opened the door. It shouldn’t have--after all, he was the one visiting the younger guy. Of course Kaidoh would be at his apartment. Tezuka mentally scolded himself, taking a deep breath and looking straight into Kaidoh’s eyes. “Is now a good time?” He remembered sending a text to Kaidoh a few days ago, asking to meet up. They had some things to discuss after all.
“I... I suppose...” Kaidoh retreated from the door, leaving it open for Tezuka to get inside. He nervously poked at one of the buttons of his shirt. Was he supposed to start talking, or was Tezuka supposed to do that? He wasn’t sure how to act and that just made him even more uncomfortable, even though they were in his room. Tezuka had been there once before, so it shouldn’t bother him as much as it was.
“If you’re busy, I can leave and this can happen another time,” Tezuka offered, not moving from where he stood in the doorway. He was only there because he’d gotten yelled at to not drag things on. But if Kaidoh was just as reluctant to deal with the issue, then Tezuka couldn’t be blamed for the non-resolved status. “It’s not a problem for me.”
Kaidoh gulped. “I... that...” While he was cared of what Tezuka would say, he still wanted to know. At least a little. Maybe these feelings he had were just a bother to the captain. He never wanted to be a bother, but if he was... well, he didn’t know what he’d do. He’d never chosen to feel like this about Tezuka, and it was weird.
He looked at the floor, not knowing what to say.
Kaidoh looked as uncomfortable as Tezuka felt. He liked the younger boy. Genuinely. The second year was a kind and reliable person, even if he did scare people with his seriousness at times. That was probably what was making this so hard and awkward. Tezuka didn’t want to hurt the boy or ruin the friendship they already had.
“Uhm... Buchou... Are you..” he fell silent and thought of what he was going to say. It shouldn’t be that hard to tell someone that they could come in, but damn well it was. “You can... come in...” Kaidoh mumbled. “err... if you want to...”
Tezuka nodded, obliging. He stepped in, barely inside the apartment. Looking at Kaidoh, he gave a mental sigh. “Kaidoh, you need to be more confident.” As the next Seigaku buchou, the boy needed to be able to show he could lead others. Without confidence, it was hard to get people to follow you. Tezuka walked over to the younger boy, making him stand up straight, head held high. “Carry yourself like this. You need to be able to convey a strong message to people.”
Feeling his face heat up, Kaidoh had an internal panic attack. It wasn’t as if he wasn’t confident about himself. He was just shy. Or at least that’s what he had been hearing since he was little. But with Tezuka, it was just worse. “..r..right...” he mumbled, wanting to go back to his usual posture but forcing himself to stay as Tezuka had showed him.
Tezuka shook his head. “And when you speak, do it clearly and without hesitation.” None of this stuttering. It was harder to get people to take you seriously when you stuttered like that. He let his hand rest on the younger boy’s shoulder, looking the second year in the eye. “You’re to be the next buchou, you do understand that?”
Kaidoh’s face heated even worse and he nodded. As Tezuka continued, he blinked slowly, then looked up at Tezuka in surprise. “...eh..?” What? He was..? Eh?
“You are,” Tezuka confirmed. “After we leave, you’ll be Seigaku’s buchou.” Though first Tezuka had to be able give up the position himself. And be ready to hand it over. Easy said than done, to be completely honest. He didn’t want to hand it over. At least, no unless he was sure the future of the team was in good hands. “Don’t be so surprised.” The only real choices had been Kaidoh and Momoshiro.
This was confusing. While he felt happy that Tezuka trusted him enough to tell him he would be buchou, it felt as if the captain mentioned it now mostly to stall for time, for some reason. Kaidoh guessed hat he knew why Tezuka was there, but that wasn’t what it seemed like right now. “Well, I... Was.. a little...”
Honestly, Tezuka wasn’t trying to stall for time. At least, he hadn’t been in the start. As it was going on, he was starting to though. “Why are you surprised?” Kaidoh really was the most logical choice. Tezuka wouldn’t admit it to anyone but he was actually really curious to hear Kaidoh’s response.
Kaidoh thought about what to answer to that question. It was for some reason or the other a difficult question to answer. “I...” he frowned. Why had he been? He guessed that it was because he just was. “..don’t know..”
Not exactly the kind of answer Tezuka had been expecting to hear. On that topic, Tezuka knew he needed to give Kaidoh an answer himself. He sighed mentally, just wishing the topic would go away, that things would be resolved easily and without any work. “Kaidoh...”
Kaidoh’s gaze flickered from the floor and to Tezuka for a brief moment, and he nodded lightly. “...hai...”
He really didn’t want to talk about this. But it wasn’t going to just go away, no matter how much Tezuka wished it would. He took a few steps back, standing in front of the door again. “That cake on White Day.”
Kaidoh felt his face heat up at the mentioning of the cake, and he looked down. “Ah... yeah..” His heart raced and his mind blanked. For some reason, he felt scared of hearing Tezuka’s reply.
Tezuka sighed. “What did you mean by it?” If it was just a confession, then okay. But did Kaidoh mean for there to be more?
“...I....” Kaidoh bit his lip and looked up at Tezuka. “I meant what I said before. That I li--like you...” He looked down again, feeling that he was shivering, just like his voice was.
“I...like you to,” Tezuka answered but before Kaidoh could get his hopes up, the captain added, “but only as a friend.”
Kaidoh stared at the ground, not knowing what to say at that. He felt like crying, but didn’t want to. Not in front of Tezuka-buchou. He blinked to stop himself from letting out any tears, and nodded slowly. “..I.... see...” his voice betrayed him with it’s shaking.
“Maybe, in another time.” Tezuka felt terrible. This was exactly what he’d been afraid would happen. “Who knows what the future will bring.”
“N.” Kaidoh nodded again. He hoped Tezuka wouldn’t say more about it. He wanted to be alone.right now, and still he absolutely didn’t want to be alone.
Feeling uncomfortable, though that feeling had never entirely faded, Tezuka put his hand on the doorknob. “I’ll see you around,” he told the younger boy, leaving.
Kaidoh looked after Tezuka, wanted to say something but didn’t know. “N.”
