When: Just before the first episode of Kiva was to start taping
Where: Eiji's apartment
Summary: Sengoku and Eiji hanging out. Eiji is slowly and painstakingly learning how to play the violin and they play with Kivat
Sengoku hummed a happy tune as he took the stairs to get up to the fifth floor of the apartments, on his way to Eiji’s room. Since their roles in the series Kamen Rider Kiva had been announced to them, they had also found out that they would be required to play violin. Lucky for Sengoku that he already knew how to play it, but he wasn’t sure how it was with Eiji. So he decided to go find Eiji and check if he knew it or not. He didn’t really seem like the type to be patient enough to learn it.
Violin case in his left hand, he raised his right to knock on the door to Eiji’s apartment. Hopefully, the redhead would be in right now.
A pout was plastered all over Eiji’s face as he slumped on the couch. In one hand he had the violin that had been given to him upon successful cast in the role. The one his character would be playing. In the other hand, the bow had slipped out and was now sitting on the couch. He had been given a few easy things to practise but it was so boring...and slow tedious...playing the guitar was so much more fun. Why couldn’t Wataru play that instead? He peeked up as there was a knock on the door and put his instrument down gently. As he opened the door, that childish pout was still all over his face.
“Hello, Kikumaru-kun~” Sengoku greeted as the door opened. His eyes filled with amusement at the other’s expression. It was pretty clear that there was something he wasn’t satisfied with, what with that pout he was wearing. “How’s it going with the violin~?”
“Moou~ Iya da!” He declared as he moved to let the other boy in. Eiji sighed and walked back over to slump back down onto the couch. He picked up the violin again and placed the instrument on his lap, pouting at it again. Learning a new instrument just to play a character on a tv show. It seemed way too much effort, although the role was a pretty major one for a very well known series. It was still a lot of effort! And the fact that he’s hiding this whole thing from Oishi just made it even harder.
“Oh, it can’t be that bad.” Sengoku said as he stepped into the apartment, closing the door behind him. He walked over to the couch and sat down next to Eiji, placing his violin case next to him. He hadn’t really needed one, but since Otoya would be playing this one, he thought that, why not? It was a very pretty instrument, too. He took a look at Eiji’s violin. “I take it you’re not doing well with the practice?” he asked. He wasn’t surprised that Eiji wasn’t be patient enough.
The pout was almost permanent on his face now. The perfect face for Wataru, really if anybody were to think about it that way. Blue eyes looked over at Sengoku with a little sigh that followed now long after it. Slender fingers played lightly over the string of the violin in his lap as Eiji shook his head slightly. “This … “ He mumbled a little, waving his hand over the violin then over to the script of the first episode on the table. “This was all great! The best...the opportunity I’ve been waiting for. And all I need to be able to do now is look like I can play this violin on TV.” He groaned and flopped backwards on the couch, breathing in and puffing out his cheeks childishly.
Sengoku let out a laugh at the face Eiji was making. "It's not that hard." He picked up the violin that rested on Eiji's lap. "It's such a pretty instrument." he said, observing it for a while, running his fingers over the violin as he did, before handing it back to the redhead. "Try it out again. You know how to hold it, right?" He should at least know that much, at least somewhat. "You don't have to know a lot to look like you know how to do it on screen."
Eiji sat back up and took a deep breath, nodding a little and standing up now. He picked up the violin and placed it onto his shoulder, chin resting down in its proper position with the bow held gently in his free hand. He had watched video after video and had been given some instruction by the teachers at school. Posing wasn’t too much of a problem, but reading through the script it was clear to see that they were definitely going to be recording Wataru scenes playing the violin. The serious and slightly sad expression on his face now, perfect again, for the character he was playing. Slowly, Eiji’s acting skills were beginning to take effect already.
It was quite amazing to see such a serious expression on Eiji's face, but yes, it really was perfect for Wataru. He himself didn't play a very serious character. In fact, Otoya was far from it. At least for now, but you never know how characters might develop. "So you got some instructions on how to play, right?" he asked as he stood up.
Blue eyes stared towards Sengoku and Eiji blew a sigh out onto the violin his chin was perched upon. “Instructions...the teacher at school is probably sick of seeing how badly I play this thing.” He rolled his eyes slightly but couldn’t help a small grin crossing his lips. Here they were, “father” teaching “son” how to play the instrument they shared in the show. “You know...Wataru should play the guitar or something...” He mumbled with a small laugh. The boy hadn’t read anything past script five...anything after that would just mess up all the lines he had to memorise.
"Not a very patient teacher, then." Sengoku smiled, standing behind Eiji to help him with the playing. "Like this." He took the hand that held the bow, guiding it to place against the strings of the violin. He moved Eiji's hand, sounds erupting from the instrument. It was sort of hard to guide someone else like this when playing when he hadn't done it before, but if Eiji needed the help, he'd give it. "But he doesn’t," Sengoku said as he continued to get Eiji's hand to play. Letting him get somewhat used to how to move his hand when he played to get the tones clear.
Eiji’s eyes focused onto the violin and how the fingers positioned themselves over the strings. Slowly he was allowing his muscle memory to take over and learn little quirks that would make it look like he was a professional violinist. “I have to look like I play as good as you on the show..” He mumbled quietly, the pout on his face evident as he felt himself slip up more often than not and reach for the wrong part of the string...it was so different. At least a guitar had frets marked out. Maybe he had been worrying too much about the role he had to play. Everything about his demeanour right now definitely showed he’d be able to act as Wataru. Just like everything Sengoku did proved he could definitely pull off Otoya.
"You'll just have to get the hang of the basics first." Sengoku replied as he guided Eiji's and, still letting him get more used to the movements. "You won't get perfect at playing right away you know, so don't worry." In Sengoku's opinion, Eiji was doing just fine. He reached up to guide the other hand as well, helping him with finding the right grip for each tone. "You'll get it."
“Basics...” The word mumbled out of Eiji’s lips and he sighed. “I’m never going to be any good at this, we’re recording the first episode next week!” He dropped his attention for a moment and frowned at the violin for a moment before managing to refocus his attention. “Okay okay...I can do this.” Kikumaru Eiji can do anything! ...except properly screen his journal posts and delete photos off his mobile phone but asides from that he could do anything! Learning the violin just enough to play it like a pro just for Wataru couldn’t be too bad.
"Yes, you can do this~" Sengoku agreed, nodding as he kept guiding Eiji's hands. "You're doing well~" He could notice the other perk up a bit, and it wasn't strange that it went a bit better after that. If you set your mind to it, you can do practically anything.
A small smile curled at the tips of Eiji’s lips as he stood there, kind of playing the violin, mostly with a lot of help from Sengoku but at least he was kind of getting it. There was a really nice rush of joy when he realized that he wasn’t going to completely fail in front of the camera. “I bet you’re going to be recording all of the violin tracks...right?” From what he could read in the script, the pieces that they’re going to play are really complicated. He took a deep breath, forcing himself to slow down and just follow very slowly where his fingers were guided. Patience...was not a Kikumaru strong point. Learning the violin was the most boring thing ever.
If he had asked Sengoku, Eiji wouldn't fail at it at all. He would do fine, he was sure of that. Plus, it was the first acting role for both of them, and it was big. They didn’t have to be perfect at it right away. He laughed at Eiji's words, but didn't let his hands guiding the other's slip or waver as he did. "They wanted me to concentrate more on the character, but they agreed to let me do that. It'll be fun~" To him, almost everything was fun, and of course that included instruments. "You're doing well, Kikumaru-kun." he said, meaning it. With Eiji's patience, it went really well for him.
The grin on Eiji’s face said it all. It had taken a while but the sounds coming from the violin weren’t horrible at all and that made the boy more excited than anything. The excitement degraded the playing for a few moments until the redhead was able to get a grasp on himself and slow down again. It wasn’t mozart or beethoven but it’ll get there. He laughed a little and almost bounced on the spot. No more scratchy horrible brain breaking sounds. It actually sounded like a real tune! “Uwah~ This isn’t so bad after all!”
"It isn't going bad at all~" Sengoku was wearing a wide smile on his face, and he loosened his hold on Eiji's hands slightly, seeing how it would go for him with less guidance. He was definitely improving quickly, he thought.
Relying on muscle memory and the fact that he was able to pick up things quite quickly, Eiji’s fingers were able to move to the correct locations, pressing down lightly and allowing some tremor. He wasn’t going to go on set and look like a complete newcomer. “Why did you learn to play the violin...?” It wasn’t really an instrument that most people picked up. Guitar...piano...keyboard...drums...those were the usual instruments.
When that went well, Sengoku let go entirely, wanting to see if that went as well as just before. He moved to sit on the armrest to the couch, watching Eiji play. “It’s an interesting instrument, that requires a lot of attention.” Well, most instruments did. “And back when I was younger, I didn’t have any patience at all, so it helped me sort of.. calm down a bit.”
Eiji’s eyes widened a little bit, it would be very surprising if anything could teach him to be patient really. Usually the boy was jumping off walls or climbing something. The only way Oishi ever was able to get him to calm down was to either play some sort of soothing music or to encourage Eiji to burn up all his energy so he’d go to sleep. A soft grin touched his lips as the redhead continued, only fumbling a few times without Sengoku’s help. “This is...kind of like the guitar...” Well, finding the notes it was kind of, play technique was completely different.
Sengoku nodded. He could get how the violin would somehow be similar to the guitar in a way, even though the differences were many as well. “I find it easier to pour my feelings into the violin though.” he admitted. That was why he preferred to play it on his own most of the time, and it helped him whenever he was feeling down. And to pour his feelings into something was just what he had needed when he was younger. And so, the first instrument he had started to play was the violin.
“Hey have you read through the scripts so far...?” Eiji relaxed and let the violin droped from where it sat, now placing it gently back into its case, the bow tucked in next to it. That was definitely enough for a day. Playing that was beginning to give him cramps, a guitar was definitely a lot more comfortable. He wondered just how much violin playing he would need to do for the show anyway. “Don’t you think it’s an interesting show?” A short laugh before he shook his head slightly. Any show that started with a character stealing fish was an interesting one.
“I’ve read the scripts to the first few episodes. I want to remember those I’ve read this far before going further.” But he was planning on being quite a bit ahead during all of the recording. And from what he had read, Otoya would be really fun to play. He had his moments, it seemed, but they weren’t that many. But who knew what would happen later on. Well, they would, once they read more of the script. “It seems very interesting.” Sengoku laughed. “I never expected you to be my son~”
Eiji laughed loudly, wandering into his kitchen and pulling open the fridge. “I’m a bit old to be your son nya~” He pulled out a couple of cans, tossing one towards Sengoku before pulling out some snacks as well. He returned back to the living room, putting everything down on the table and cracking open his drink, taking a sip. “I have so many lines though, it’s going to be hard memorizing all of it.” Luckily it wasn’t a stage play really so he had time to memorise bits and pieces and he could time it depending on how the scheduling was.
“You are.” Sengoku caught the can, opening it to drink. “When’re you born anyway, Kikumaru-kun?” he asked. He didn’t know that much about most of the people here. And since they would be on the same series, it would be good to know your co-workers. “You’ll learn your lines, I’m sure. All of us who’s in Kiva can practice them together~”
“I’m in third year this year.” He blinked at Sengoku with a small childish smile, drinking from his can and grabbing a handful of candy. “We should have practice! A lot of us live in these apartments after all.” He wandered into his room for a moment and returned a short while later with a wide smile on his face, holding out a little plastic bat like object. “They let me borrow Kivat.” He laughed loudly, making it fly around in the air.
Sengoku laughed at that, giving the other a light poke. “I knew that. I mean what date?” That could tell you a lot about a person after all. If you believed in such things, which Sengoku did. “How many of us.. five?” He thought they were that many, yes. He couldn’t help but laughing again as Eiji moved around, making the bat like plastic creature fly around the room.
Eiji struck a pose, hand up in the air with the most serious expression he could muster up at that point. “Kivat~” He called into the room before bursting into laughter. He shook his head a little and looked down at the toy. “Wataru...I don’t know how he handles having this bite him every time he wants to transform.” He bounced into the couch, sitting down on it, the toy still in his hands. “November...on the twenty eighth.” He smiled a little and leaned back on the couch, now playing with the toy up in the air again. He hoped this series would make a lot of people happy.
“Gabu.” Sengoku said, repeating the line that was spoken by Kivat when Wataru was to transform into Kiva. He laughed as well. “Wataru is quite the interesting boy, isn’t he?” There was a bunch of interesting characters from what he knew. “Oh, then you’re just three days younger than me.”
Another round of laughter exploded from him as he brought the toy back down onto his lap, watching over at Sengoku with a wide smile. “Ah! We should have a big joint birthday!” No doubt if the producers of the show knew how close their birthdays were, there would probably be some kind of Kiva birthday party. Father and son. Eiji wriggled a little in his seat, really excited about this show now. “We start recording next week. It’s going to be so much fun. I heard Tezuka has to go through some intense fight and acrobatics training.” The idea of that was so amusing.
“That sounds like a great idea~” Sengoku nodded, grinning back at Eiji. That should turn out like a fun event. “Acrobatics as well? Ah, right, I’ll be getting those as well.” He would soon get to start with that as well, but at least he had some basic experience in fighting, mostly from boxing. But he couldn’t imagine Tezuka of all having that. Indeed, it was very amusing. And made him look forward to his own training sessions for it.
Eiji was kind of glad he started with acrobatics a long time ago and with so much recording he had to do, they were going to train him as he needed to learn. That and SevenLines had agreed to alter some of his dance training into basic martial arts training. There was so much he had to do. With the Live coming up and recording beginning already. It was enough to make Eiji’s head spin. That and they would be expected to get a Tetra Fang music video recorded in time for one of the episodes with the song featured in it. “Eh? Otoya fights in the series too...?” He grinned at Sengoku a moment, not having really read that far into the series.
“Yep, Otoya gets to fight as well.” Sengoku nodded once more, still grinning. He was sure that that would be very interesting to do, and he would learn new things from it as well. Learning new things was not something he usually objected to, being too adventurous for that. New things were fun to do, and he liked experiencing them, no matter what it was. And Gakuto’s acrobatics had been impressive, so to get a slight knowledge about that felt nice as well.
This was getting more and more interesting, Eiji thought a little about the entire situation as he stretched. “Is there anybody in the series that doesn’t fight then.” He laughed a little, entirely too amused by the whole situation. As far as he knew though, the only person who gets to have a little bat fly around was him. Although...he probably shouldn’t feel too special about that for long, there were so many interesting things about this show that they probably won’t reveal until much later. It was a little bit sad that even though they were the actors, there was so much they wouldn’t be told until the scripts were released. “Hey, you have a song to sing as well, right?”
“I haven’t read all of it.” Sengoku laughed. He had read far, but not all of it. Far from it, in his opinion at least. “There should be someone who doesn’t.” Well, he had just reached a little past one of Otoya’s fighting scenes after all. Yes, things were definitely going to get interesting in this show. “And yep, I’ll sing for the show as well.”
“Yay!” Eiji wasn’t going to be the only one to sing. It would be weird if he were the only one to get a singing contract out of the drama after all. He kicked a little where he sat, excited about the turn of events and all the things they would get to do. Fingers ran over the smooth plastic surface of the toy in his lap, making the “mouth” part of Kivat open and close. Acting out these scenes seemed to funny sometimes but it would probably look good on tv. Honestly, Eiji had not seen any over the previous seasons and wondered if that was important. “Have you...watched any of the other Kamen Rider series?”
“I watched bits and pieces when I got the part as Otoya.” Sengoku nodded. “But not other than that, no. Seems pretty interesting, though.” Most series seemed like a blend of fun and serious, and in the right amount that suited each series. “Each of them is pretty special.” Some more than others, he had to admit, but all of them were.
Bits and pieces huh...Eiji cast a grin at Sengoku, standing proudly and holding Kivat up in the air like a trophy. “But Kiva is going to be the best out of them all!” He would stake his entire career on it...maybe...but it was going to be damn close anyway. He was going to give it his best and surely the rest of the cast and crew were going to make sure of that as well. He sighed happily and laughed loudly again. “We’ll make sure it’s the best one of them all.”
“Of course Kiva will be the best!” Sengoku laughed, nodding in agreement. “We’re in it, so of course~” And there was nothing stopping him from giving his all in this, and would do his absolute best. Besides, in the end, you turn out more satisfied if you give it your all, instead of just doing what you think is enough. So of course Kiva would be the best.
Eiji tossed Kivat at Sengoku with a laugh, posing as Kiva would, having practised poses non stop for the entire week. The crew members who had been part of previous Kamen Rider series had sent him pictures of live sentai shows and all kinds of things to help Eiji get more and more into the role, it had been so much fun opening up his mail and seeing everything there. “We’re cutting it a bit close, don’t you think? We’ve only just started taping and they’re going to air the first episode in a few weeks.”
Sengoku was still laughing as he caught the plastic bat, playing with the function that got Kivat to talk, as well as bite Wataru. “It’ll be close, yeah.” They would have to work really hard to manage to get it all finished before the airing. But then, they were professionals and probably knew how much time would be needed to finish the episodes and not get behind.
“It’s so hard too nya~ Trying not to tell everybody what happens on an episode before it airs. I want to post everything and get all the fans so excited!” His arms flew up into the air as he spoke, hands animating exactly how he felt at the time. The grin on his face, the expressions all showing just how excited he was to be playing this boy despite the character being nothing like him at all. “I hope the fans like Wataru. He’s so shy and I have to make so many sad faces at the camera.” He pouted as if to prove a point.
“It’s hard, yes~ But not that hard~” He was good at keeping secrets, others just as well as his own. So if he wanted to, he could keep quiet. It was just that it only applied to secrets and things like that, not talking in general. “I’m sure Wataru will be popular.”
“Otoya too, ne!” He laughed. “You’re my dad, after all.” He shook his head a little and peered towards Sengoku with a grin, this was really strange, sitting in a room with someone his own age and calling them ‘dad’. Eiji drank half of his drink, setting it down on the table and leaned back on the couch he sat on, staring up towards the ceiling with a little bit of a pout on his lips. “I feel a bit bad, not telling Oishi what I’m in though...” Not that he wasn’t allowed to...he just wanted to make it a big surprise and show his boyfriend what he had accomplished once he had something completed. At least either the first episode of the show or the opening credits or something anyway.
“Yes, Otoya’ll be popular~” He was a fun character, so there was no doubt in his mind that people would find him entertaining. “Your three days older dad, yes~” Sengoku laughed, finding the thought terribly amusing. He drank some of his own drink, the can in one hand, the other playing with Kivat as he watched Eiji pout. “Making it a surprise?” He himself didn’t tell, not even giving Akutsu a clear reply about the girl-thing. But that was purely out of his own amusement.
“Un well...after shooting next week there’ll be commercials on tv, right? I kind of...want him to turn on the tv and see me in one of the primetime tv shows.” He smiled a little to himself and laughed slightly, wondering if that would be a little too much on the vice captain but it would be such a funny reaction. He’d need to set up a hidden camera or something to capture the event. “Or we could have a viewing downstairs on the big tv of our first episode!”
“Yes, the commercials will be on soon.” Sengoku nodded. “You could always tell him to meet you by the tv when it’s going to air without telling him what it is.” That would be entertaining, definitely.
Eiji nodded excitedly in response. That would definitely be the way to do it. He laughed and bounced in his seat even more. “I wonder which parts of the show they’re going to use in the CM.” He thought about all the scenes he’d read about. Well...they would need to film those scenes first and then another thought crossed his mind and he laughed. “I’ve got some promotional segments to do on some shows too. They’re kinda...embarrassing.” Those promo shows would probably be seen by so many people...
“That will be fun to see.” Being on the set would be, so it would be fun to see the result of their work. “Oh, what would be embarrassing?” Sengoku leaned back where he sat on the armrest of the couch, watching Eiji with curiousity. Eiji was used to the stage, so it couldn’t be that. And that just made him all the more curious about it.
A slight blush crossed Eiji’s face as he pulled up his diary. “Well...I’ve got some kids shows coming up soon.” He mumbled with a little laugh. Kids shows he could handle, he loved playing around with kids and acting stupid really...but... “Crayon Shin-chan...they’re probably going to make me do some embarrassing things, right?” He shook his head a little. When he’d signed up to this show, he had forgotten that he’d probably have to appear on a lot of promotional shows like this.
“Crayon Shin-chan?” Sengoku snorted with laughter. “I can understand why you think that’s embarrassing.” The other kids shows couldn’t be as embarrassing, really. “Good luck with it.”
“Eeeeh...” A little childish frown crossed Eiji’s expression as he shook his head slightly. The kinds of things you had to do as the main star of the show. “Why don’t you have to do more promotion work?” He accused and stuck his tongue out at Sengoku. He was just as much a main character. However, even with all of this, the redhead couldn’t stop himself from grinning and still being excited about the whole thing.
Sengoku laughed as Eiji stuck his tongue out at him. “Because even though we’re both main, you’re the one who’s the most.” He did have some promotion work that he was going to do, but not as much as Eiji. “You’re Kiva.” That did explain things, in his opinion. Eiji was Wataru, hence being Kiva as well. So it wasn’t weird that he was the one who did the most promotion works for the show. But it was clear that Eiji wasn’t too sad about it, what with the grin that crept onto his face and he couldn’t help but grin back.
“Cheh. You’re the one who loves all the attention nya~” He teased with another laugh. The one who went around chasing women all the time and making those creepy faces at people. He made one of those faces at Sengoku and then broke into another burst of laughter. He really couldn’t take that kind of role seriously and was really glad he didn’t have to play it. Eiji fell back onto the seat a little and watched up at the ceiling. “Have you met the other cast members?” Eiji hadn’t really talked to a lot of them...not the past timeline members anyhow.
“Oh yes, I love it~” He liked getting attention, maybe too much at times, he could admit to that. So Eiji’s teasing, and and the imitation of him made him burst out laughing. Yes, it would be very fun to work with this guy. Once he could stop, he answered the other’s question. “I’ve talked some with them. They seem nice. The woman who’s going to play Yuri is a lot nicer than Yuri herself, I have to say.” Well, she wasn’t hitting him, like Yuri did to Otoya all the time. “But they’re all nice.” he repeated, snickering at the thought of the man that looked so much like Tezuka. “And then there’s Tezuka’s clone. Or it might be the other way around.”
“Yeah!! They must have been twins but born years apart.” That couldn’t have been possible at all but stranger things have happened, really. Eiji grinned and stretched again. “I heard that one of the SevenLines girls is going to be playing another character from your time later on a well.” He mused, wondering what it would be like working with her. He didn’t know much about her after all although he has met her a few times. “I wonder if we could get it so that every time we called out Tezuka his twin would turn around and answer instead! That would be so much fun~!”
"That," Sengoku laughed, "is impossible, but I get what you mean. And he seems like an interesting guy, so maybe we could get him to do that." He grinned, thinking it over. Takigawa-san seemed like he was a fun guy, far from how Tezuka acted. But with how alike they looked.. yeah, he couldn't help but tease the teen about it. "I heard about that, yeah. I'll be interesting~" Maya, or Queen as she was also called by the fangire. That would be very interesting indeed.
