Rating: G
When: the day after Kaidoh gets turned down.
Where: Kaidoh's apartment, out on town
Summary: Kaidoh is down and moping in bed, Marui doesn't know what's making him sad, but he tries to cheer him up. And drag him out shopping.

Kaidoh stared into the wall, clutching his pillow closer to his chest. He was glad there was no school today, and that was a relief. He knew Tezuka didn’t mean anything bad, but he wanted to be allowed to get better and try to get over it. But it was so difficult. He sighed. If only he never had confessed.

“Kaidoh-kuuun.” Marui knocked on the door to the older of the Kaidoh-brother’s apartment, but as he didn’t get any answer, he just walked in when he found the door unlocked. “Kaidoh-kun?” he called again, looking for the younger teen. He knew it was sort of rude to just go in, but he had knocked. He didn’t think the boy was out at the moment, but he could be wrong.

He noticed that he wasn’t, as he looked into the bedroom. “Hey, what’re you doing there? It’s in the middle of the day.” As far as he knew, the younger got up freakishly early, too. Besides, he was fully dressed.

Kaidoh hadn’t heard the door open. Nor had he known that it wasn’t locked. But obviously, he seemed to completely have forgotten about it.

However, when he heard Marui’s voice, he didn’t even flinch. He continued to stare at the wall, and after several moments of silence passing between them, he spoke with a blank, empty tone. “Go away.”

Marui raised his eyebrows at the younger boy, going over to sit on the edge of the bed. He poked Kaidoh’s shoulder, not really one for being sensible most of the time. “Oi. What’s happened? Why’re you so down?” He wasn’t the brightest person when it came to things like this, not when it took him so long to realize his own feelings for Akaya, but he wasn’t dense. And he could feel that something was wrong.

Kaidoh slowly shook his head. “...nothing..” he mumbled, clutching tighter to his pillow. “Go away.”

“Okay, if it’s nothing, then why’re you just lying around like that? Come on, tell me.” He gave the younger’s shoulder another poke. “Or, if you don’t feel like talking about whatever’s upsetting you, let’s go do something.”

Kaidoh turned a tired gaze towards Marui, and frowned. He instantly let his face relax. It hurt too much to be doing that right now. Then again, he hadn’t cried like this for such a long time. Last time must have been... no, he didn’t even remember when he had cried like this.
“No.”

“Yes.” Marui tugged at the taller boy, getting him up on his feet. “Now wash off your face, crying don’t make you prettier. You need to get out of that bed.” He let the water start running, before heading back to the younger boy. “Wash up, and let’s go out.”

Kaidoh makes a face. Okay, so that comment didn’t exactly make him feel better. Letting out a hiss, he hesitated, then sit up. He stops there, sitting in a slumped position and don’t feel like moving at all. Go out... He didn’t want to. Not when he was feeling like this.

“Kaidoh-kun..” Marui sat down next to him once he got back. “I don’t know what’s wrong, but you can’t just stay here for the rest of your life. It’s better to get out for a bit.” He took him into the bathroom. “Or do I have to wash your face for you? I’ve been helping my brothers out for years, so I know I can make you.”

Kaidoh mustered a halfhearted glare, then turned on the water. He quickly wash his face in the water. He stopped, staring at the running water and felt like crying along with it. Then he shut it off and dried his face off.

Marui wasn’t affected by the weak glare in the slightest, instead just waiting while the raven washed and dried his face. “Now come on. You’re already dressed, and it’s warm outside, so let’s go.” He pulled the younger with him, so that Kaidoh could take on his shoes.

Putting on his shoes, Kaidoh scowled as he then was dragged out of the apartment. He pulled away and this time made sure that his door was locked, before following Marui. His gaze locked at the ground, and he warily kept his eyes open just in case. But he probably wouldn’t have noticed if Tezuka or anyone was close at the moment either way.

A slight frown crept onto Marui’s face. Really, he didn’t like when people were down, so he hoped that Kaidoh would feel a bit better by going out instead of just lying and moping around. Once they got out of the building and into the more central parts of town, he turned to look at the younger fully. His eyes was still a bit red and puffy, but nowhere close to how it had been earlier. That was good at least. “Hey, let’s go shopping.”

Kaidoh blinked at the ground. “....huh...?” He looked up. “...shopping...?” Why would he have to go shopping with Marui, of all? He had gone with Hazue and his parents, but to go shopping with someone not in his family? And someone from another school and band, at that. “..why?”

“Cus it’s fun.” Marui nodded, pulling Kaidoh into a random store. And you totally need something to distract you from whatever’s bothering you, he thought, but didn’t say it out loud.

Kaidoh sighed. Not really. But who was he saying no to people who were older than him? Not that Marui-san is my Senpai... he thought in annoyance. He hissed and looked around without much interest. Hah...

Marui could see on the younger’s face that he didn’t agree with him on that. But it gave the younger something to do in the least. “Hey, you can choose somewhere to go as well, you know. Just tell me. As long as it’s not going back.”

“I’d rather go back.” Kaidoh commented. He sullenly followed Marui through the shop.

“No going back.” Marui poked the younger boy’s cheek. “Told you. Now come on.” He tugged at the other’s arm, checking the shelves. He put on a pair of weirdly shaped sunglasses, combined with an equally weird hat. “How do I look, Kaidoh-kun?” he asked, but he sort of already knew how he looked. Completely and utterly ridiculous.

Kaidoh looked up for a moment. Then he looked away. “Stupid.” This was stupid, to. And annoying. He shoved his ands into his pants’ pockets and hissed again.

“I know that.” Marui stuck out his tongue at the younger, but it wasn’t like he had taken offence by that answer. “That’s the point.” He switched hat and glasses, these looking even more ridiculous. “How ‘bout now?” He added a silly grimace to that.

After a quick glance, Kaidoh repeated “Stupid.” and huffed. He wandered further into the shop, and frowned at all the weird clothes. It wouldn’t be surprising if Kikumaru-sanpai went here, but it wasn’t really the type of clothes that Kaidoh preferred.

Marui followed, still wearing said stupid-looking hat and glasses. “Hey, they’ve got fun clothes here.” He pulled out a shirt with some weird print with text in a language he didn’t know. Nope, he had never been to this store before, just pulled the younger into it at random. He was more familiar with the shops in Kanagawa, which wasn’t strange at all. Sure, he could still get lost pretty easily in Tokyo, but that didn’t stop him from exploring the capital.

Kaidoh sighed. “Right.” he muttered. “Whatever.” He wished that it had been a more normal shop he had been dragged to.

“Use more words when you’re speaking, kid.” Sure, the guy wasn’t that much younger than him, but he was still younger, hence he could call him ‘kid’ if he wanted to. “So, let’s go to another shop.” Marui nodded to himself, grinning up at the taller. He pulled the younger with him, putting hat and glasses back when they passed the place where he took them.

Kaidoh scowled and let Marui drag him along. “No thank you.” Expressing his feelings too much only caused trouble to him.

“Yes thank you.” Marui didn’t believe in keeping quiet, and he’d never been been good at it either. Even if being blunt was sort of troubling at times, he thought it was better than sugar-coating or just not saying anything. He pulled the younger into another shop, remembering that there was something he needed to get soon anyway. Not that it had to have been a shop more for girls, but they had more to choose from. And what with his new-found sort-of interest, it didn’t bother him. He didn’t know about Kaidoh, though. But he wasn’t here for the clothes anyway.

Kaidoh stopped right by the doors and glared darkly at Marui. “What. Are we here for?” he hissed angrily.

“Hair dye.” Marui snickered. “Got more to choose from. And I know they’ve got the shade I want.” He bent down by all the red and pink shades, looking for the mentioned colour. Why yes, he’d been here before for the clothes, but he wouldn’t tell Kaidoh that.

Kaidoh scowled. “Hair dye? Red hairdye?” The idiot already had red hair, so why would he need to dye his hair redder?

“It’s not natural, silly.” Marui grinned up at him from where he sat. He blew a bubble of gum, that covered just about all of his face when it popped. “Oooh.” Marui pouted, starting to pry the gum off his face.

“Why the hell’d anyone choose to dye their haid pink, then?” Kaidoh huffed. Alright, Marui was now not labeled as annoying idiot anymore, he was an annoying and stupid as hell idiot.

“What if I feel good with this colour?” Because he did. Made him feel more secure in some seriously weird way. For some reason that he didn’t know himself. “You’ve never tried it then. Different colours on your hair.”

Kaidoh scowled. “No. Why would I?” He glared once more. Really, why would he? It was just stupid. Besides, black was fine with him.

“Cus it’s fun. And feels nice.” Marui grabbed the shade he had been looking for.

“Right.” He huffed. Then he eyed the older teen, and his gaze wandered to the shelves. That there were so many different colors, and even more shades of each, too..

Marui held back a chuckle as he noticed Kaidoh’s eyes wandering the shelves, looking at the colours. The guy was apparently more interested than he let on.

Kaidoh continued to stare at the hairdyes. Maybe he could. But he shouldn’t. Besides, he didn’t know if the school allowed dying of ones hair. And what would his senpai-tachi say? Tezuka-buchou.... New start...? He gave a deep sigh.

“Curious?” Marui stood up, looking between the shelves of hair dye and the younger teen. Well, that the guy considered actually dying it was sort of a surprise, but not necessarily a bad thing.

Kaidoh looked at him. “I...” he looked down at the floor.

“So you are.” the redhead insisted, smiling up at him. But he just wasn’t sure yet.

“....no..” Kaidoh muttered. Why would he be?

“Because you totally looked like you considered it.” Marui pointed out.

Kaidoh glanced at him, then looked at the colors again. “....not really....”

“Yeah.” The redhead nodded. “Looked like you did.”

“Fssshh..” Kaidoh hissed. “Right...”

Marui smiled, reaching up to ruffle the younger’s hair. “Yup.”

Kaidoh glared at Marui and flattened his hair a little. “..maybe....” he muttered.

“Aren’t you cute.” Marui chuckled. “Do whatever you think makes you feel good.”

“I....guess...” Kaidoh mumbled. He didn’t want to think, though. It only hurt and he wished he hadn’t started thinking about these weird things from the very start.

The older boy played with the box in his hands, nodding again. “Yeah.”

“Nnn..” Kaidoh nodded. He rubbed at his eyes and continued to eye the different cartons.

Marui frowned, but just a bit. They guy looked about to cry again. “Ne, I don’t know what’s bugging you, but it’ll be fine.” He gave the younger a hug, trying to give some comfort, rubbing his back like he did whenever his brothers were sad. “Don’t worry.”

Kaidoh closed his eyes and let himself be comforted for a moment, then pulled away.

Marui smiled at the taller boy. “Don’t worry, okay?” He went back to playing with the box, turning to the shelves full with hair dye. “There’s really lots and lots of colours, right?”

“Ou.” Kaidoh nodded, trying to shake off the tears that suddenly threatened.

“Need another hug?” Marui asked, noticing how the younger fought against tears.

Kaidoh shook his head. “..no thanks...”

“Okay. Just tell me if you need one.” Marui liked hugs, and he didn’t have any problems with giving the younger as many as he needed to cheer up.

After a moment, Kaidoh nodded. "..usu..."

The younger seemed to calm down a bit as the minutes passed, and that teary look disappeared. Marui smiled up at him again.

Kaidoh scratched his neck and looked down. "What...?" he asked, halfhearted glare directred at Marui.

"Nothing," Marui answered. "Just that you look a bit better now. Your mood, I mean."

With a huff, Kaidoh turned away. He looked at the cartons and grabbed one of them off of the shelf.

"Just at random?" Marui's smile widened, and a small chuckle escaped his mouth. "Sure you don't want to check what colour you're choosing?"

"I'm not sure if I'm even going to use it." Kaidoh muttered. "Does it matter?"

"Not really," the redhead answered, shaking his head. "Thought maybe you'd know. Like, what if it's green or something."

Hissing again, Kaidoh shrugged. "If it is, I just don't have to use it." Hell, he was sure Hazue would snatch it from him if it was.

"Yeah, sure." Marui nodded, heading over to pay. "Come on."

Silently, Kaidoh followed Marui towars the cashier.
