Those are the best (sounding) letters, M. Back to our discussion on heroism- those people are the genuine article. It takes real guts to come forward with the perfect way to put out fires, real courage to want to run away to kansas. Those are the people with one foot in a living, breathing fairy tale.
And by *chance* you get invited to take part in it? That is- ah- it makes me giddy :). I'd love to write about some of those people- you could probably make a whole collection of short stories just from those letters. Capital R Romance :).

(sigh) I think your level of enthusiasm for people-watching is close to mine. Having a connection to some interesting people is really an oasis in this dessert of bureaucracy... not to be melodramatic, or anything.

It is sad that protests and complaints are always given more attention than praise and sympathy. I think you should assure the paranoid woman that her house is being de-bugged and the satellites have been refocused on her neighbor.

Actually, it was by chance that I ended up here. I applied for a State Department internship in Moscow, and they offered me one in Bern... maybe I was just destined to return? Who knows.

I have enjoyed reading your writing too... and I can't believe you're in Korea! I wish I could have seen your martial arts demonstration. :)

how awesome. how could you not respond to a swiss boy who's in love with kansas? that's like the cutest thing i've ever heard.

i need to get out of the country and blow some holes in my american ignorance. and indeed, we are spoiled with our mountains.
