"Watch your mouth, Rubi." Mika called, her ears twitching back as she adjusted the shoulder strap of her bag. It was a different bag than she used to carry, same design, a few scattered buttons pinned on the flap, but a khaki color instead of the dark slate the previous bag had been. For someone who'd spent the last year wearing an increasingly tattered v-neck and pair of jeans, Mika looked almost clean-cut now despite the overgrown shag of hair that was pulled to the side in a braid.

She brushed aside her pale bangs, then checked the holsters on her hips to reassure herself that they weren't going to fall off. They were a strange weight that she wasn't used to, one that she'd need to get used to now that she was back in the apartments.

"I don't know if I'll be able to shoot these without nearly killing one of us." Her dissatisfied frown cleared as she looked up at Rubi. "They didn't go back with me when I went home, I think I might've forgotten how to use them."

Rubi had to grin at Mika while she approached, but that grin faltered a little while her brow furrowed, taking in Mika's appearance. It wasn't the hair and whatnot that bothered her, but the wolf-girl looked... tired. And very heavy as if some kind of invisible weights were attached to her shoulders. Her eyes weren't as spunky as Rubi had remembered (Imagined or not), which bothered Malone immensely.

A moment or two passed while she considered Mika's profile thoughtfully.

Then, apparently after settling on an important decision, she promptly took several strides forward and enveloped the smaller girl in an embrace, squeezing gently once prior to letting go and settling her hands on Mika's shoulders instead. The nonchalant expression Rubi wore might've just made the casual bystander wonder if they'd imagined the hug.

"Just practice. It'll come back." Grinning, Rubi lowered her voice to a conspiratorial murmur. "I can even think of someone who can help us out with moving target practice."

It probably wasn't Rubi's imagination at all, which was the sad part. The last two years that Mika had gone through had left her drained, and she had a hole that she didn't know how to fill. She was fiddling with a new wristband when Rubi hugged her, catching her entirely off guard and forcing a surprised huff out of her.

That didn't stop her from returning the hug, though. Her tail was wagging in surprise by the end of it, leaving Mika wearing an oddly blank expression.

"Yeah?" Her ears flicked forward and she blinked her surprise away, nodding a little. "Yeah, you're right."

But that last bit made Mika sputter. "Rubi, I am not going to take pot shots at Dante, if that's what you're thinking!"

It seems some things never really changed.

The returned hug was a nice bonus, considering she rarely ever let anyone in her personal space bubble nowadays aside from the one or two people she had trusted with her life. Kinda sucked when that number was down to one single person back home - fewer hugs that way.

A wicked grin, slow in coming, spread over her lips as she let her hands drop from Mika's shoulders, studiously examining the sky overhead while she responded. "Oh come on, Mika. You know he's practically invincible. I have no idea what kind of crazy mutant powers he has, but a few bullets won't so much as scratch him."

Shrugging in an offhand fashion was followed by pivoting on her heel to face the mall itself. Better get this show underway.

"Guns out, and stay sharp. If you see a mannequin, shoot it. Simple."

"That's not true, he's been clinically dead for a few seconds before, I'm pretty sure." She adjusted the leather wristband again, trying to get it to settle comfortably on her wrist. Rubi still didn't know, did she? That's right, Mika had to remember to be careful how she talked again. Not everybody knew everybody else's secrets like she did.

A strange sense of disassociation came with that knowledge, knowing and seeing, but keeping that invisible wall between them to prevent accidents from happening. "He bleeds just as much as everyone else does, he just heals faster."

Mika huffed softly, her ears flicked back and her tail waving, but she unholstered one of the guns and checked to be sure it was loaded. Satisfied it probably wasn't going to jam or blow up in her face, she cocked it. "Just like Silent Hill all over again. Got it. Just don't expect any fancy double-handed shooting tricks from me, okay?"
