Light almost seemed angelic as he slept; though he slightly tossed and turned, he seemed peaceful. Not a single hair fell out of place. His looks were perfect, even as he dreamed. And what great dreams they were. Pleasant dreams of a new world, a world that was finally going to be realized. The cinnamon taste in his mouth was the only thing that seemed off.

Light swirled the candy in his mouth around with his tongue. His eyes fluttered. Light's dream world crumbled and melted as the tangibility of reality set in. His eyelids slid partially open. Light could almost make out a familiar figure.

His eyes shut and reopened. Messy black hair and a finger to the figure's lips--why was that familiar? ... His eyes widened. Light gasped. His heart skipped a beat. Light pushed himself backwards and subsequently on to the floor.

Light's mouth was open to speak, but no words found their way out. He just continually stared up at the image of a man who--he was certain--was dead.

L jerked back slightly when Light all but scrambled to the floor. Judging by the other man's reaction, L could likely assume Light had little or nothing to do with the fact that L was present, if not their current situation entirely. Was Light surprised to see him alive?

L peered over the bed, his expression more serious than curious now. Was there really any place for niceties and faux friendship anymore? Kira had shown his true colors.

"Light. What is going on?"

Straight and to the point, an all-encompassing question. L wanted any information Light could give. He watched the other man's face, scrutinizing for any traces of dishonest behavior.

What was going on here? Why was L alive? Questions raced through Light's mind at an astonishing pace. Light had seen the man die with his own eyes. Yet, here he was before him. He hadn't felt this surprised since the first time he laid eyes on a shinigami, but even then he had expected a shinigami to show up.

Light hadn't expected to see L alive again. Not now. Not ever. Light tried to compose himself. His mouth closed into a bit of a frown. If this person really was L why would he show up now? Why wait so long after the incident? There were so many questions unanswered, but Light knew one thing for sure, there was no point in keeping up an air of innocence or pretense anymore.

"That's something I should be asking you." He paused to glance around, "Where are we?" His tone was tense and irritated more than confused. This whole situation reeked of something L would plan.

Then Light was clueless as well? But how could that be possible? There was just a huge hole in all of this--a span of time, their actions, their memories. Was this some sort of dream? A dying vision? ...Or was his death the dream? Both felt so real...

L continued to stare down at Light from above.

"What is the last thing you remember?"

Were they both missing the same moments, or did Light remember more? Any bit of information would help, considering the slate was blank at the moment. L itched to explore this foreign place, but dealing with Light was the priority for now.
