Mamoritai ~White Wishes~ translation

Attempted (as ever) translation of Mamoritai ~White Wishes~, the opening for the yet-to-be-released Tales of Graces game, for the Wii. I've been following updates on the game, so I'm looking forward to it coming out- even though I don't have a Wii. ; Could be the deciding factor that gets me to get one (currently, there aren't too many games that I ( Read more... )

Whaa.... thank you for translating it!!!
I've found an other translation but I didn't like it because they translated 'Subete mamoritai' to 'I want to keep it all' XD
I luv the song XD

Thank you very much for translating this song ^^ I think I can say the lyrics easily fit Asbel's attitude even though the game isn't out yet. My interpretation is that this song is from Asbel's point of view, and the line "I hope that your piled up sadness will softly melt away" perhaps alludes to another character with emotional baggage.

To be completely honest, however, I think I prefer more subtle lyrics such as in "Karma" from Tales of the Abyss. I don't think that song really clicked for me until I'd beaten the game.

Yeah, I do feel like it would suit Asbel's attitude well (and the theme of the game, naturally). |D I quite like it when the theme song can be related to the game (or the like), although as you said, 'Karma' did the same in a more subtle way. I guess both are good for me, although 'Karma' was possibly more meaningful relating to certain events in the game rather than general (especially after the game's ending).

(Also, I like your avatar- Tales of Eternia. =3)

Thanks for looking. 8D

Oooh, many thanks. <3 (I can read Japanese waaaay better than I can understand spoken Japanese.)

And I've had my Wii more-or-less since launch and only have like six games for it. xD ...Three of which are Tales-related... Symphonia at that. (Since Lloyd was in Soulcalibur Legends.) And I got an XBOX 360 after five games that I wanted were announced for it. SO IF YOU CAN FIND FIVE GAMES, IN MY EYES YOU CAN JUSTIFY BUYING A WII. The price went down recently too~.

(Then again, I don't buy my systems. I make my mother do it and I'm 22 years old, jeebus.

And we can't forget "Kane o Narashite/Ring A Bell" or "Starry Heavens" on fitting the games.

..."Karma" was the main reason I picked up Abyss and now the song just makes me cry.

Aaaand I just totally rambled.

You're welcome. 8D (And I'm pretty much the same- I'm better with reading written Japanese than I am with speaking it or understanding it when spoken. ; )

Five games would be fine for me, I think. |D It's just a question of finding them. (Tales of Graces is definitely one).

Those two also fit their games well, I agree. Although 'Karma' seems to really fit, somehow- especially after the end of the game. I've somehow come to that conclusion even though I haven't played it myself.

Don't worry about it- rambling is good. |D Thanks for commenting.

[2] I think it's something like "I can feel the one thing that illuminates the future".

[1] in explanation form: He/she used to think that it was the end (probably referring to some event that happened or something). End of what, I don't know, it could be anything. Anyway there's something negative here, maybe depression, a feeling of giving up. But now he/she has realized that it wasn't the "end" at all, that actually what happened was what enabled him/her to "fly", which has a positive connotation, and, I think, should be taken in the sense of "growing up" or something of the sort. A new beginning, to a brighter future. Or something like that.
That's how I hear that paragraph anyway, but it's only my interpretation ^^;

Hope that helped.

Thanks- this was very helpful. 8D I think your interpretations are most likely correct, too, so I think I might change the respective lines.

Thanks for your help, again.
