You know, I turn my head for five seconds, and this thing goes and does something screwy(is that a word? oh well. it is now).
Yes, I have a story.
The other night I was perusing the online world, minding my own business, just waiting for the awesomeness of Inuyasha to grace my television screen(albeit in wretched dubbed format....*shakes fist at Cartoon Network* Fourteen year olds can handle subtitles!). Then I remembered I had some very important paperwork to attend to before I succumbed to slumber. I went to work on that, and about two minutes into it, I happen to catch a glance of the monitor out of the corner of my eye. When I was greeted with a blue screen and a long error message, shades of two years ago(and my old computer's demise)began to slip into my horrified mind. However, I tried my best to remain calm and resorted to the "tried and true" restart the computer option. Unfortunately, I was greeted with that same blue screen. Of course, then I allowed myself to truly worry. After that, I formed a very simple plan of action.
Call tech support!
I spent the better part of yesterday afternoon, last night, and early this morning on the phone with two very patient and helpful gentlemen who finally were able to get my computer up and running again. The triumph came at a price....
The first gentleman instructed me to use the Windows XP disk to repair my current copy of XP. I left for work and let it run, expecting it to be more than complete when I returned home. Not the case. The setup came to a screeching halt at "32 minutes remaining", which prompted my second call to tech support. After explaining my dilemma/sob story with the second gentleman, he told me the best and more permanent solution to fixing the problem would be to wipe out my current copy of XP and start again. Suffice it to say, initially, I was devastated. All my IM conversations(probably a thousand), my poetry, my fan fiction, my games....everything was going to be lost. Mostly because I lacked the presence of mind to copy my files to a floppy disk. *headdeskbang*
Anyway, long story short,(yeah, yeah, I know it's too late.) my computer is repaired. The task of installing and downloading all my games and such is going to prove difficult, but I will persevere! *strikes determined pose* Also, next investment, anti-virus and anti-spyware software. *dropkicks all those pesky pop-up ads*
I finished off close to a pint of Nestle Toll House Cookie Swirl ice cream in less than an hour. I don't even regret it either. It was damn good, and I enjoyed it, dammit!
My computer desk, or rather the items on it, are in desperate need of rearrangement. Will it get done today like it should? Let's consult the magic 8-ball. Eh, no need. The answer is always no.
It's very possible I've contracted a cold.
For the moment, I'm taking my marbles and going home. I want something real.
EDIT-It appears that somewhere in the middle of all the revamping of my computer, my sound card has disappeared. Does anyone know how I can correct this? If so, please, share your wisdom with a poor sound-starved girl.
