Title: Tie My Shoelaces, I'll Trip Over My Heart
Pairing: kid!Joonmyun/teenager!Kyungsoo
The doorbell rings and Joonmyun perks up from his slouched position on the couch. He shouts, “PAPA, DWORR!” But Joonmyun’s papa is a lazy butt who is probably kissy kissy with daddy. That’s gross parent stuff that Joonmyun refuses to partake in because it’s gross. When papa or daddy kiss his cheeks, they always leave his cheeks super wet on purpose-it’s like the second shower of the day. Joonmyun opens the door for his papa, prepared to say “No no no, we have no candy right now.”
He looks up and sees the outlines of thin shoulders under a thick, white sheet with eyes cut out. He can’t see anything except the person’s eyes but he’s beautiful. “Wao,” he breathes. The person bends down, holding out a shopping bag filled half-way with candy. “Hehe, I’m Kyungsoo the Ghost. Trick-or-treat?” The boy sounds almost embarrassed to be asking a child for candy but Joonmyun thinks his voice is just lovely.
“Wait here,” Joonmyun commands, followed by a stomp and a finger pointing to the spot Kyungsoo is standing. Joonmyun runs to the kitchen and grabs a bag of chocolates, peeking through the living room to see if the handsome-eyes-voice-person-ghost is still there. He struggles to open the plastic bag, trying to open it in a Hulk-like fashion but he’s not strong like papa or daddy-daddy is a cheater though, he uses scissors. Joonmyun stretches the bag just enough to paw one of his hands inside and grab a handful of chocolates but his fist is stuck in the bag. He stares at his hand and runs to the door with the bag attached to his arm.
“Here,” he says. The value-sized chocolate pack is too big to fit in Kyungsoo’s bag so Kyungsoo shies away from the hand even though it jabs at him urgently.
“I don’t think your parents would want me to take everything,” Kyungsoo laughs. Joonmyun pouts.
“Baaaa I wannaaaa,” Joonmyun whines.
“Well, your hand is attached and I don’t think your parents would want me to steal you too. That would be kidnapping. Kidnapping is a bad thing,” Kyungsoo explains. Joonmyun gasps, he doesn’t want Kyungsoo the Ghost to do a bad thing or get in trouble so he nods his head thoughtfully. Joonmyun is a smart kid, and likes to think of solutions but since he can’t really think of one, he says” BAAAA I WANNAAAAAAAAAAAAA.” Then his lips tremble and he starts crying until papa comes out to see what the commotion is all about.
Kyungsoo laughs nervously, not sure what to do to console the crying child. He’s never had to deal with this before in all his years of trick-or-treating. He can’t exactly say he doesn’t want the candy anymore when Joonmyun looks like he would be more upset over that idea, but if he says he does then he’d probably sign himself up for even more trouble. Fortunately, Kyungsoo recognizes one of the child’s father as his chemistry teacher from last year. Quickly, he draws himself up to his full height and bows in greeting. Joonmyun is still crying.
“Myunnie,” Jongin says, “we greet trick-or-treaters with candy, not tears and emotional pain. What’s wrong with you?” Jongin scoops Joonmyun up in his arms and gives Kyungsoo an apologetic smile. Jongin struggles to open the bag wider with Joonmyun in his arms. He’s about to hand a couple pieces to Kyungsoo so he can leave and be spared the trouble but Joonmyun tugs violently at his papa’s sleeve.
“I wannaaa give candy to handsome hyuuuung,” Joonmyun sniffles. Jongin rolls his eyes and deposits the candy into Joonmyun’s waiting palm. Joonmyun drops the candy into Kyungsoo’s bag but he doesn’t retreat it even when Jongin tries to pull him away.
“Me too! Me too!” Joonmyun wants to go with the handsome hyung that has the nice voice and pretty eyes. If the bag of chocolates wouldn’t fit in Kyungsoo’s bag, Joonmyun definitely wouldn’t even be able to fit more than an arm. Jongin lightly pinches Joonmyun’s arm until he lets go, pouting at his mean papa.
“Papa, you don’t like true love?” Jongin stares at Joonmyun dryly.
“Well, that’s why you exist right?”
Jongdae pads into the living room, wondering what’s taking Jongin so long when he sees the trick-or-treater as one of the boys from his current choir class.
“Kyungsoo! Wow, I never thought you’d be a heartbreaker-or that you’d break my child’s heart before he even hit puberty.” The sheer look of panic on Kyungsoo’s face makes Jongdae laugh. (“I’m joking-oh god, you thought I was serious.”) Joonmyun gets passed to Jongdae, and he stays put clinging onto his daddy’s neck for three seconds before he wriggles his way down.
“Fawwters,” Joonmyun says, “I wanna trick-or-treat with hwansome hyaunggg!” Jongin looks at Jongdae, knowing that Joonmyun never says ‘father’ unless he’s trying to impress someone. When Jongdae shrugs, Joonmyun shrieks, “PAPA. YOU HAFTA YES. OK?”
“Did you ask handsome hyung yet? What if Kyungsoo doesn’t want to take you? You’ll have to stay at home with papa and daddy. Are you okay with that?” Joonmyun looks at his papa in distaste, at this very moment he is a big kid now and he can’t be seen in front of his crush being babysat by his parents.
“Kim-seonsaengnims, I don’t mind but that decision is up to you if you want to trust your precious child with me.” Joonmyun whispers, “Precious,” treasuring the compliment.
“I trust you with him,” Jongdae says, “but he can’t leave anyways since his babysitter is supposed to arrive soon.” Apparently, Kim-seonsaengnims plan on going out later and they can’t very well let Joonmyun stay home alone, especially during Halloween when there’s so many people out late at night.
“Papa,” Joonmyun whines, stamping his feet, “pleaseeeeeeee?” Jongdae shares a look with Jongin, and they call their babysitter to cancel.
“Just bring him back before ten,” Jongin says.
Joonmyun knows that Kyungsoo’s going to be his future husband just by the way Kyungsoo helps him put on his Velcro shoes. It’s destiny.
