I know what you mean about recognition. Even if it's not monetary, it's still absolutely necessary.

What still bothers me is that I'm always being reassured that I'm such a valuable, key member of the team...but I get the least recognition for my efforts. Especially in the monetary arena. It's not even just getting a raise anymore. My company lets managers give out brownie points, which can be exchanged for gift cards. Lemme tell you, I haven't seen any brownie points. I really hate getting these mixed messages from management.
