But how do you go from liking girls with certain characteristics to not?
I don't think you have to, necessarily. I'm wondering if there's just a certain combination of characteristics and the expression of those characteristics that you're used to noticing; hence the pattern. There might be other signals you could pick up on (so to speak).
Here's hoping.
Also, one of my friends awesome comment at lunch the other day about how a lot of people (in Utah specifically) get married young and quickly because finding a partner is easier if you (or your expectations, I guess) are 'bland'. Which sounds rude, but - honestly, it makes sense that people with complex personalities would have a harder time finding a 'fit'. And I think realising that could help a lot of my single-and-frustrated friends feel better about things.
I think Erin did a good job of letting me know that I have a pattern and what that pattern was. I knew it existed, but never recognized it as a pattern until she mentioned it. It may be harder to break my pattern than I thought though since the only characteristic that most of my dating/crush history have in common is they're nice and sweet but go for guys who aren't. It's very Breakfast Club in that way
