TGIF~ too bad there's no good TGIF shows still on TV. Was Boy Meets World on on Fridays? I can't remember. Why am I rambling about unrelated things? I do not know. :P

Enjoy part 123!

What, um... what would be an appropriate Valentine's Day present for a lady?

There's always the old standby of flowers and chocolate? Though, if you're feeling extra fancy and have the cash to burn, jewelry would work, too.

But I'm worrying that all these things might become too boring for her! I'm also not all that secure in my taste regarding women's jewelry.

Don't you have a more, well, original idea?

Alas, I am but a simple anon who has been single all my life. I'm also the kind of girl who's easily satisfied, so I doubt what suits my tastes matches France's.

I wish you the best of luck, Germany!

Still, thank you very much!

Born and raised in the Rhineland (West Germany), but currently living in the South, close to the French border (hon hon hon)!

I have a free day on that trip to Belgium... but I doubt I'd be able to get to where you are in time ofspica February 6 2010, 04:28:52 UTC
Hm, what are the major differences between the two areas?

Reply

I doubt it too, though it is a pity! ;_; But far distance train travel is just too expensive here. bake_einsamcake February 6 2010, 04:36:48 UTC
Well, the South has more mountains, valleys, lakes and deep forests whereas the West is pretty flat with lots of acres and lighter woodland.

As we're nearing Karneval (in the West) or Fasnet / Fasnacht (in the South) there are great differences in the way it's celebrated. In the West people just dress up in silly / cool / sexy / etc. costumes and party hard, but in the South there are these organized groups with super-long traditions all of which have their own distinctive costume, and these costumes are pretty scary and actually fear-inducing. They also make huge bonfires and hold witches' hour events and stuff.

Even if I could afford it it'd prob. be at least 3 hours each way. I can't speak German either! ofspica February 6 2010, 04:45:40 UTC
I looked up some pictures and... they really are a little scary. I wonder how the children react, ahaha.

I'd come towards you, but I also can't afford it. ;_; And traveling alone would be meh for you! bake_einsamcake February 6 2010, 05:00:11 UTC
The kids are part of it all, they have lots of fun! Well, of course they can't participate everywhere; like half of it is adult stuff like drinking, holding weird speeches in dialects no West German understands etc. and the other half is kids' stuff like making their own costumes, catching sweets the masked people throw around. Yeah.

That sounds like a lot of fun! Ahh, everywhere else gets cool Shrove Tuesday celebrations, we do nothing here.

I know a lot of people who were afraid of relatively bland-looking North American clowns while growing up, ahaha.

/REACHES FOR *YOU* ;_; Oh, damn it, this is ~dramatic~! bake_einsamcake February 6 2010, 05:20:46 UTC
Whoa, hold it right there! Clowns are a whole different caliber. These scary traditional costumes can be distressing, but clowns are distressing. Approximately 70% of the people I talked to about this are afraid of clowns. I really dislike them too.

/THEME FROM THE TITANIC ;_; ofspica February 6 2010, 05:26:58 UTC
Is it the way they're always smiling, and the strange way in which they laugh? I never found them funny but I've never been afraid of them either... I was more creeped out by... certain... bugs...

NO / NOT THE TITANIC THEME / I know! What if we write each other a letter instead? bake_einsamcake February 6 2010, 05:45:49 UTC
Yeah, i suppose. They look so unnatural, like a grotesque mockery of a human face... and behind that frozen smile the most disturbing personality could be lurking. *shivers*
