[spots him; alomst has an aneurysm]

ITALIEN!!

[rushes over, snatches the next pile of documents from his hands]

What the hell are you doing?! Didn't I tell you to stop burning my belongings?

We really did all these things together? I wish I could remember anything! Were you already such a good painter as you are now when you were a child? I'm sure you must have been!

[almost remembers something; a blue sky, a warm sun, two pieces of canvas... but loses the image as quickly as it came]

[nod nod!] I wasn't very good at first, but Nonno told me not to give up! Mm, I helped you paint, too! You always got shy when I tried showing you, but painting with you was a lot of fun!

[can hardly imagine getting shy at Italy... well, apart from when he crushed on him so hard during WWII]

Do you still have any of the paintings? Or did they all crumble?

[shakes his head] I don't have them anymore... Ve, mi dispiace!

That is too bad.

We... we were friends until I left for the Napoleonic Wars, is that right? And after that you didn't see me again until I became the German Empire? Did you not recognize me then; had I changed so much?

Frère said you were no more.

Frankreich told you that? But why would he do that? The female one I know told me that she took me in for a few years after my defeat; I became the Rhine Republic for that time. Hmm... I remember being very sick during that period, so maybe they thought I wouldn't make it... if Frankreich had won the wars I assume I would have been assimilated.

Either way I am sorry we didn't find out earlier! If only I had known you were my childhood friend...

[gives Italy's shoulder a gentle if somewhat insecure squeeze]

[hugs him back, feeling that strange mixture of happiness and sadness well up again]

I- I'm glad to have you as my friend, Italien. I'm glad you are here.

... [nod] Germany? You really don't remember anything, huh?

No. All I remember from before I became the German Confederation is being sick and sleeping a lot, and there are vague images of Österrich and Osten yelling at each other...

...

Well, I did have a feeling of recognition when I first saw the little Italien here on the meme. I felt like I had seen her - excuse me, him - before. Maybe I dreamt of you? The other Deutschland told me that he dreamt of you...

A dream about me? Ve...

If you want... I can help you remember everything again! Then maybe you'll get your memories back... Right? Anon thought it was a good idea.

I'd be so glad if I could remember anything! Do you think some of my memories might come back if you told me more about my past?

I'll be happy if they did! I have stuff in my attic from back then that Fratello told me not to touch because it's filthy junk that I should just throw out "'cause it's taking too much damn space"! Do you wanna see?

Yes, let us take a look at whatever you have there! Depending on what it is it might shed some light on things.
