Just break out the pickles and make sure you have enough booze around. He will very likely drink whatever amount you present him with, and depending on the alcohol concentration and the approximate consistency of non-imbibed available grey matter, he might ask for more.

They're like doughnuts filled with all sorts of delicious types of jam and served with sweet cream on top. Bulgaria might like it too, they're a speciality from one of his neighbours but then again, he might hate them because of the same reason

You two need to focus on each other to become beter acquainted! This is how good relations are estabilished! And, I'm sure Bulgaria must feel quite lonely after all that time he spent by himself. It would be better if all your attention was centered around him, as to make him feel better about himself!
