INCEPTIVERSARY! CRAFT WEEK! CREATION CHALLENGE FOR 'TOTEMS'!

So obviously, I made cross stitching. :3

I posted the pattern for this to the totems challenge with the promise that I would post pictures as well. Which of course I didn't do in a timely fashion haha oops. Better late than never?

AND NOW I SHALL TALK ABOUT MY PROCESS

I tried to make the design for each totem as accurate as I could, except in cases where accuracy made the item unrecognizable (like Eames' poker chip, which does not actually have the familiar alternating-coloured edging) or too difficult to work out the geometry of (Robert's pinwheel, which should have 5 spokes). A thanks goes out to my Twitter friends for giving me advice on the pattern when I tweeted pictures about it, especially
anatsuno, and my also-RL buddy
quellefille who came with me to buy the floss and endured me asking things like "BUT IS IT RED ENOUGH??" and "ARE YOU SURE THIS IS ORANGE????" and moaning about how all the camp kids had taken all the red floss when I NEED IT MORE. >.> Let's just say that was a cranky day and speak no more of it. :)

I really enjoyed staring at screencaps and photos of Ariadne's bishop. That is not sarcasm! I really did! It's an interesting shape and I couldn't quite do it justice here, really. For Mal's top I actually have a facsimile from the PASIV case packaging for the film, and I also stared at it and measured with it my fingers a lot trying to figure out how to make it look right in pixel form.

Poor Cobb and his wedding ring. Thank you whichever fandom person I read saying that Dom's ring only appears in dreams and not in reality. I have re-watched the ending of this movie so many times hoping to catch a glimpse of his left hand, to no avail. DAMN YOU CHRISTOPHER NOLAN. Anyway, so that's why that is in here. :) I also decided to include the pinwheel even though it isn't technically a totem, because it's an Important Item and also because it's cool.

The only thing I could think of to use for Saito would be his shag carpet, and I wasn't prepared to go that far with this, haha. Yusuf didn't have anything in the dream, unless you count maybe...pee? I wish there were fanon-accepted totems for these guys. :(

I have also done my best to choose accurate colours! I'm most proud of Eames' poker chip, which is salmon and pumpkin (haha I am endlessly amused by this, it sounds exactly like a colour scheme he would wear XD) and Arthur's die, which I used a shiny floss for to make it look more like a translucent item. (I maybe should have used only one strand of floss for it, alas)

If you'd like to download the pattern the link is here! Feel free to modify or adapt it to your purposes in any way you choose. :)
