KABOOM!

09:02, 6/24. As suddenly as the others, a large meteorite collides with Icelus Station. The initial point of impact is over rooms 5 and 6, creating a hole roughly the same size as one of the shower rooms. It continues onward, ripping through the dining room and processing room just below, as well as the livestock pens, and on through the set of ( Read more... )

Sam had gotten up early that morning and was out on the roof of the colony installing the point defense system she had finished building. a high-frequency radar array and rotating weapons mount were wirelessly connected to her computer system for the computing power necessary to operate the array. Her Zat was secured to the weapons arm and would fire a three round burst at any in coming objects that the computer calculated post a threat to the colony, disintegrating the offending ice-ball. The array was positioned on the spinward side of the tether for maximum possible coverage of the highest threat area ( ... )

When one was a creature that had been genetically built for speed and the ability to manipulate space and time at will, it was a little disconcerting to have something happen so fast that even given those talents, nothing could be done. Shadow cursed as the nature of the impact sank in - he hadn't been anywhere near the affected rooms, had in fact been running on the track, but the sound and the shock of it was jarring, as was the abrupt lack of air soon after. He could survive that, thanks to his alien half, but he would have saved the others, if only he'd had a chance to react. At a loss, he sprinted for the impact site, and stared at the damage that had been done, knowing it was already too late for anyone else ( ... )

As was most common these days, Church had been inhabiting the Rec Room, where he was enjoying a game of Asteroids, much to his dark amusement. There had been several of them lately, it seemed, and he didn't know if they had any way of detecting them, deflecting them, or what - and he wouldn't know how to set it up if they did - but so far it hadn't been a serious problem, aside from the one collision with EVA Storage, and Carter had seemed pretty on top of that. So why couldn't he entertain himself with shooting crappy 2D ones in one of the most primitive-looking games he'd ever seen? It sure beat staring out the window.

The collision was sudden, and jarring, and he didn't have to go look to see what had happened. But he did anyway, leaving his portable in place on the couch as he went to go inspect the damage.

"Oh, holy shit..." It was worse than he'd thought. He thought he saw movement - someone had survived? But before he could call out, he was back in the Rec Room, on the couch.

"Okay, what the fuck just happened?"

Robin had been in the dining room when the meteor had struck, grabbing a mid-morning snack. He instinctively ducked and dodged when he felt and heard the impact, but there was no time for his evasive manoevers to do any good. He hadn't had time to feel the pain from the shrapnel that had hit him; in seconds he was sucked out into vacuum, the immense air pressure overcoming even the 'downward' acceleration of the artificial gravity... temporarily. He'd fallen to the ice, cold beyond imagining, in unimaginable pain from the lack of pressure, his lungs starving for oxygen. The end had come quickly, but painfully ( ... )

"Whoa, slow down you little freak, I've only been gone for like-" he checked the clock in his suit, which he'd set to match station time not long after arriving, and stopped. "...Five hours? What the fuck?"

"Yeah, five hours! ...Why, how long did you think you'd been gone?" he asked.
