More Kittens!
The kittens are proving to be quite a lot of fun now that they're settling in and I'm not quite so paranoid about them. They curl up with each other to sleep in some of the world's cutest poses (the cutest one being when Pebbles lay down on Sparky and then put her head directly on top of his, aw...). When The Cephalopods Rule The World
After all of darwinian_woman's jokes about cephalopods, xkcd has managed to catch up with the humour and so I could not let it go unremarked :D -
Kitten update
The kittens have steadily shed their shy phase and are now whipping through the downstairs room like cute furry balls of entropy. They've already ripped the lowest layer of lights off the Christmas Tree, battered the lower branches into proper submission and toyed with the baubles and light fittings. Fall From Heaven 2
For those of you who have Civilisation 4 and have played it to death, I really recommend the mod Fall From Heaven 2. I've been using it to distract myself from things and it really is quite a lot of fun.

Swings swing
In the middle of last Tuesday saw a sudden mood change which slowly seeped into everything and made me feel more and more down as the week progressed. By now I feel really terrible and very unhappy. Perl Hacking my Gnome Backgrounds
One of the other things I managed to do was to write a short Perl script that cycles my background under gnome to a random image from a folder, again something I thought beyond my ability. I find it ironic that I've used a lot of Perl to write simple system scripts, amongst them some installation and maintenance scripts for the Tsunami Beowulf ( Read more... ) -

Scicamp
I just got back from a manic weekend with scicamp. It was an awesome event and the energy and enthusiasm that was there was just amazing. I was really happy to take part, though by no means was it easy nor all pleasant. Indeed, it was gruelling. But I felt enthused having done it.
