So I saw the YGO movie after having to drive on the highway to get there, aaaaaahhhhhh.
Things we have learned from this experience:
- Malindachan's entry got second place in the art contest! Slifer's was an honorable mention! Yay!
- Juudai and Paradox are the best expression-makers in this whole fucking film. Paradox has batshit eyes. Also, Yuugi has an honorable mention for the time when the Crimson Dragon sweeps him up and sends him thirty minutes into the past to undo the destruction from the first attempt at killing Pegasus.
- The movie is unedited; Yubel's chest is the way it was in the original, and Pharaoh is unneutered. YOU HEARD ME. The music has apparently been replaced, but it's actually pretty good. It's no twangy GX dub BGM, anyway. I mean, at first I thought I was listening to the original tracks, so that tells you something.
- It's stated Juudai's in Europe when he tracks Paradox down, supposedly because he heard his friends telling him their cards were stolen. Probably London or thereabouts, based on the architecture...?
- Yuusei can, in fact, see duel spirits -- Juudai's, at least -- and Yubel and Daito were able to tell he was unusual because of the Signer mark right away.
- YUBEL FIRES ENERGY BLASTS, no lie.
- Paradox had a decent voice, though it was kind of "Crowler without the overly pretentious nasal tone". Everyone else did acceptably, though I will never stop disliking Jaden's voice. D|
- The 5D's minor characters cameoed! For like... two frames! Yuusei thought back to all his nakama. The ones I could spot were, alongside Team 5D's regulars, Ushio, Mikage, Himuro, and Team Sat Kiryu. Among a bunch of others I couldn't identify because ffff short clip.
- Daito and Pharaoh were the token peanut gallery in this movie, naturally.
- The time frame of the duel, outside of "Yuugi's time", whether it was post-Battle City or something else, was pretty unclear. Paradox's ultimate fate when he loses is more or less up to speculation, too, between dying or getting sent back to the future. How he time travels is ALSO up to interpretation...
- Juudai actually has a laptop! In his bag! I was actually really surprised by this, since I wasn't expecting anything like that. He used it to look up past events that were changed with Yuusei. (It's not red like his phone, though. But it does mean he's not disconnected from the outside world when he travels, so...!)
- That ten minutes of extra content? IT IS A TOTAL LIE, or maybe Japan only, take your pick. I stayed until after the credits, but there was nothing. :(
In conclusion:
I WANT TO PLAY PARADOX SOMEWHERE HE IS SUCH A FUCKING ABRASIVE PESSIMIST AND HNNNNNNNNNNNNNG.
Any questions? 8U
