thats not how you deal with being waitlisted. what happens is, you can say you're going to another college and then pay the deposit, which is usually about 200 dollars, and still remain on those waitlists, and if you get into one of those schools and really want to go, just tell the other college nevermind and forfeit your deposit. yale actually didnt have a deposit because they assume that everybody wants to go there so i stayed on the waitlist for columbia just for kicks, because if i wanted to change my mind i had nothing to lose. i dont know of other schools without deposits, but really, whats a couple hundred bucks if it's a school you really want to go to, right? anyway, dont feel bad doing this, because people do it all the time, and when they calculate how many students theyre accepting etc. they assume that a certain amount will say they're not going, and then a certain amount will say they're going but then change their minds precisely because of a waitlist thing.
i don't even know you and i'm really not trying to be rude, but a couple hundred bucks is sort of a big deal..especially if applying to all those schools cost 50 bucks a pop on average, then shelling out 200 extra dollars? that's sort of a lot. i dunno. maybe you're made of money, i'm not.
sorry that sounds mean but it's not supposed to, it just struck me as pretty classist even though idon't know anything about your background.
hey....i share a journal with the girl you just responded to.
sometimes she phrases things crassly such as 200 not being a lot of money. of course 200 bucks is a lot. but seriously in the context of spending thousands of dollars a year to go to ANY college, spending $200 is a drop in the pond if it plays a factor in keeping your spot at a school you DO like while waiting to hear from a school that you like even more. definitely go for this option anne.
thanks leah for translating for me. my sentiments exactly--it's not a lot relative to what you would have to pay over the course of four years, and that money may as well be going towards your tuition for the school you wanted most.
dude, i'm not made of money either, but money is not everything, and i don't think that 200 bucks, while absolutely a lot, is relatively enough to determine your college. anne, stay on your waitlists.
