Of course Larva's and my trip to London was not only noteworthy because of the Harry Potter moments. Actually, while there, I already started plotting a second trip in the - hopefully not so distant - future with focus on Drone's interests: castles and the history of the royal navy, most noteably during the age of sails. Sounds like a very lovely time. We loved the Tower and were thankful Katie was only 3 and really didn't care what we did since she could crawl in the stroller if it was too boring or be carried. Sadly when we were there Cutty Sark was still shrouded and undergoing repairs from the fire - or I think rebuilding is a better word ( ... )

Yes, Portsmouth is definitely on our to see list, what with the MS Victory and the Mary Rose.
Of course Drone has no professional background regarding seafare, unlike J, but form childhood on ships have fascinated him. Books on ships are hard to come by in German, so those are a huge incentive to get Drone to brush up on his English.

Edinburgh would be worth a journy as well ... only to have enough time and money ...

If you ever make Edinburgh, look into the Princess Street Suites. They are apartment hotel suites where you get full kitchen, bedrooms, laundry and located about 2 blocks from the train station. It was great for us to have at in the middle of the trip rather than a hotel room. Good price, too, especially for something right in town.
