Time heals all wounds and rips up and eats your memory. Oh, also, at least now you know your dad isn't worrying about you being gay. That's always a benefit.
As for Jonathon, gentle pressure. Not enough to make it seem like you're badgering him, but enough that he can't just dismiss it. Plant the ideas in his head. Subtly make sure he's not at any point comfortable with his habit. There's always a chance he may just lash out and cut off the people putting pressure on him, so that's why the pressure needs to come from all parties. All his friends. Everyone around him.
