Because I fully intend to actually have a syllabus for Jono's class again this semester, and maybe I'll even actually stick with it this time around!
No, I won't be holding my breath, either.
Fandom Invasions: A Survival Guide
Friday, Period One
Like it or not, you're a student on Fandom Island. This means that you'll get to deal with everything that goes hand-in-hand with Fandom life, including sudden and unexpected gender bending, gremlin bites, and that one unpredictable setback; the major invasion. The end-of-the-world event. Goblin kings, giant turtle-oxen, evil witches with an affinity for kitten plates. Assuming you'll be sticking around the island for a while, you're liable to see at least one or two major would-be disasters. And, while they're always different in nature, basic survival strategies can be put to use to increase your chances of seeing the worst through and coming out in one piece. This class will aim to help students think coolly in these situations, to see them through to the end, hopefully with minimum trauma along the way.
Much like Reno's 'Unconventional Tactics' class way back in the fall of 2010, this class is going to go over a bunch of the basics from week to week, sometimes drawing on examples from BDEs gone by and putting students through practical exercises to cover things like researching, setting up a safe place to retreat to, making certain they're properly equipped when they leave that safe place, and coping with what's just happened when it's all said and done.
... In fact, I'll be pretty much ganking Reno's
old syllabus for the course, putting a bit of a Jono-knows-how-to-be-practical touch on it, and teaching the lessons for a Fandom two years later, with a few more BDEs under its belt and a teacher who isn't as likely to abuse the word 'yo' in his lectures. (Jono's might also include the word 'dumbass' in them, though. It'll depend on the mood he's in week by week.) Jono's version of the same class might actually be more helpful, since he's a little more used to a classroom setting! So, there's that going for the students, right?
Well, a person can dream.
Syllabus
Professor Starsmore reserves the right to change the syllabus how he sees fit. His students may reserve the right to suck it up like big boys and girls if he does. Or at least complain out of earshot.
