How awful. =/ I hope Bear comes out ok. I also hope people with shit for brains stop acquiring animals they don't care to control properly. It's impressively stupid, really.

It is encouraging that the police told you charges would be pressed, at least. Keep us updated.

I'm sure the pit bulls will be killed because of this. Too bad we can't euthanize the owner, since it's not really the dogs' fault. I can't believe she didn't even talk to us - no "I'm sorry!" or "Are you okay?". There must be a special type of person who thinks "Hey, I'm going to get an aggressive dog and either neglect it or teach it to be mean. And for an encore, I will never tie it up or keep an eye on it!"

So Bear's anesthesia finally wore off this evening, though he is still weak and has a limp. I went up to visit, and he was eating bacon and potato chips from Allison's hands. We took him outside for a brief walk and he seemed to be doing well - lots of tail wagging. :)

He's such a big fat baby, really. He never stood a chance with those dogs. You can shove him around and smack him and take his food away and he just stands there with his tongue out. Poor guy.

It is too bad about the pit bulls. People like that woman really should be charged for neglect leading to the dogs' deaths in addition to the damage they caused and the ordinance violation. And that is REALLY incredible that she just went back inside, I just don't even know what kind of person you'd have to be to not even say anything. I'm sure Bear was obviously bleeding, too, not like she could just assume all was ok. Unfortunately I'm not completely surprised; working in downtown Detroit and in close collaboration with a veterinary department I get neglected pit or pit attack stories with disappointing frequency. I don't know what it is about those poor animals that brings out the troglodytes. A little while ago we had pit wander into our own parking lot during the day, probably after our "pet" feral cats, and with her neat brindle pattern she would have been a really beautiful dog... if she wasn't waddling with obviously neglected severe hip dysplasia, probably near blind with cataracts, dragging a seriously cartoonish huge ( ... )
