What a great follow-up to a great original story! Loved how believable all the rescue and escape felt. Boomer's help made total sense aa well as Kara's conflicted reaction. And Lee? This version of him can't be much worse than the better of the two Adama boys, right? *sighs*
Is this really the end of it?

As for it being the end, if there's interest in it being continued, I'd love to keep going. I actually wrote more about them returning to the fleet and then cut myself back because it felt like at least this part of the story was complete. Could there more to tell, though? Definitely.

I for one would love to read more. :)

I'd love to know what they are going to do when they return to the fleet. Are they going to lie about the kid? Are they going to convince people? How are they going to justify Kara keeping the baby then? Are they going to tell the truth? How is Kara going to deal with the reality of the baby? How is the president going to deal with it? How is everybody in the fleet? Is the baby Leoben's? How would that change what happened when Kara was incarcerated in NC? Would that even happen or would she be on Pegasus with Lee? So many questions?

If you decide to go on with it or to start something new, I'll be happy cause you're a damn good writer and I never get tired of reading good writers. :)

So many good questions! Gods, I already have a million thoughts about all of this and the different ways it could go.

I always get really nervous when I post something that no one will read it or enjoy it at all, so to hear you're pleased with what I wrote really means a ton to me. Thank you again!

What a treat this morning! I love it. Kara and Lee staying behind is a stroke of genius. And the boddycop connection rather than overt romance... And Lee thinking about shooting Kara and then himself (and then not being able to do it)... And Kara calling the baby It despite still pretty much arguing against anyone else havign the baby... All amazing and perfect!

I'm so glad you liked it! Your original story was really amazing and very different from how the pilots were here--in my head at least (and I tried to hint at in the story) they've been somewhat together and very close in the months since your story, but down on the planet they end up pushing it aside just so they have the strength to make it off of Caprica and do what they came to do. No time to let themselves get clouded and slowed down by everything else. It is definitely missing that intimacy your fic did so very very very well.

Kara's so torn in this fic because even though the possibility of finding a child was always sort of a lingering thought, I wanted her to live in denial of it. She thought at most she'd find a pregnant woman in a Farm and then she could take their life and tell herself it was out of mercy. At best, she'd find some samples of her ovary and be able to destroy them. But finding a child? That was a horror she didn't really want to believe was legitimately possible, for me at least. Even with her hesitation ( ... )

Actually what came across was not that intimacy was missing or lacking but definitely taht it was pushed aside because they coudln't do both mentally or physiaclly. And I applaud that because I think it's key to Kara and Lee getting through this situation.

I totally agree about Kara not being able to fathom finding a baby. Her focus was and would be on something destroyable ( morally, ethically) but a real, live baby is a whole other ball game because there's no way Kara (or Lee) would be able to do anything other than take it (him). There's no avoiding the reality of a baby or what happened on Kara's first trip to Caprica.

Totally agree with everything you said here! Now Kara has something to look at everyday to remind her of what happened there, and can't try to pretend otherwise.

Very intriguing and..so sad for them. (I think they should have had sex at the safe house to make themselves feel better. ;)

I really liked the line about Kara thinking it wrong for there be no rules to break. I think she's more military/needs those rules than most people assume/guess.

Oh Zak the saint. I'm kinda glad you're dead. Hee. But I am curious about what will happen to the baby... I thought perhaps they were going to decide not to return to the fleet and try to find some other refuge.

Ha! I was considering letting things in the safe house go much further...but I think their mindsets were so far from even considering that. Death was all around them, they had a mission to complete, they were questioning if they should have come at all, the quiet intimacy of just sleeping beside one another was enough for them (in my head!)

Exactly! Just because she often breaks rules doesn't mean she doesn't need them. She needs the ability to push back against something and on Caprica there is truly nothingPart of Lee's thoughts about Zak are also just sort of Lee dreaming Zak up to be far better than he ever was. He's dead, so he gets sort of sainted in everyone's mind, although I do think Zak would have grabbed that kid and ran right away, then thought about the consequences later (whereas Lee lets himself think about it for a moment before he tells Kara to grab the kid ( ... )

Guh. I have all these feelings about this story, but I'm pretty sure everyone else has already deconstructed them for me... and in a more eloquent way. So... just know that I really, really loved this.

You weren't kidding about dark. I vote for continuation! Very intriguing indeed...

Caprica just has that kind of feel for me, and when you mix a planet where billions have died with Kara in that type of mindset and Lee looking to protect her, help her get some manner of 'revenge,' and find peace...you get a very dark thing. There was no way they weren't going to take this as far as they did with someone like Simon, even if their morale brain would have said no in a better frame of mind. This whole story was both of them getting pushed incredibly far to their mental limits and coming out on the otherside not really sure of how to go forward, but knowing they have to.

I'm already itching to continue it, I've got a whole other section I wrote with this but chopped out since it didn't really go with the flow of this 'part' of the story. But there is definitely so many ideas to explore with what happens next.
