I know! I struggled with it so so so much. I planned it from the start but when I got here I was like Noooo come on....just let her make it through... but of course we know things will somehow work out in the end.
**crosses fingers** I hope so! I'm worried about what it means that she is no longer human and Lee is. :( DNW poofing in a field for some mystical destiny. Sniff.
“Gods, does the entire frakking fleet know? Even I frak up sometimes,”
Everyone has a skill.....
"What do you hear, Starbuck?" Adama asked.
"Nothing but the rain."
That particular callback always smacks me right in the chest. *sigh*
Adama reached out his hand to rest against her upper arm, squeezing it reassuringly. “Are you all right to fly, Kara?”
This somehow reminded me strongly of the "trust me" scene from Maelstrom, though Kara is the one saying she is okay to go. And of course - OF COURSE - Lee goes after her. And watches her die. I'll echo Tara: oh wow, you killed her anyway. :-(
So now we'll all have to have faith that your fix is better than what yonder RDM gaveth. I think it will be. :-)
I decided to check in on SASA after (what feels like) a million year absence from the BSG fandom, and found this gem. What an awesome story! I think you've found a really happy middle ground between canon and AU in this story, which allows to to re-explore the most interesting things about season 3, but in a fresh light- and without the Quadrangle of Doom getting in the way of things.
The periodic looks back in to Kara's childhood are also very intriguing, and I'm guessing that those two plot lines are going to start to come together more strongly now that she's gone into the maelstrom.
I'll be looking forward to updates on this one. Thanks!
First and foremost thank you for reading and I'm happy you're enjoying it so far.
And you are correct, things will be merging up ahead (I actually JUST -- as in like 20 seconds ago -- posted a short new chapter that goes back to the Dreilide/Socrata plot line and reveals/hints at a few things to come).
When I originally had the idea for this story, I was going to start it in season 4 because that was when most of my ideas were going to take place, but I decided to go way back to New Caprica and work in the Commander Thrace idea to see how that would change her and change things along the way. Now that I'm into season four, the main plot is going to pick back up in full force and some open ended questions will be answered.
Oh and since you're coming from SASA where my last update said I was on Chapter 16, I am actually on Chapter 21 now. The newer ones are all posted in my journal as well. I just don't want to post to the communities with every update or they'd be totally flooded since I usually post about once a day.
I was so sure she wasn't going to die, this time around. Her death was the one thing I hated the most in the whole show. Especially because of how they decided to bring her back. The whole "she is an angel" thing didn't make a lot of sense to me. I'd rather she had turned out to be a cylon. I'm not sure how you are going to proceed with this, but I have faith it is going to be better than what we got in canon.

I can't believed that I'm actually relieved that they made up be before she flew into the mandala.
