Thanks!

I am so used to dealing with symbolism of the sun - it is virtually universal, throughout history - that when I realised how quasi-historical characters are also venerated as Helios I was quite shocked. The dividing line between historical and legendary is blurred - not sure if it will will ever be clarified entirely.

I find some of these images fabulous in all meanings of the word.

There are so many things that seem to be innate with human thinking and in the way we feel about life, existence, and sacred elements therein.

I thought the recent 'Seven Ancient Wonders of the World' on the history channel was interesting. It mentioned the Colossus of Rhodes, the bronze sculpture of the sun god Helios. It must have been beautiful.

The French made a good choice with Colossus as the model for the Statue of Liberty.

German archaeologist Ursula Vedder suggests the original was at the temple of Apollo atop Monte Smith and surely she is right to associate Helios with Apollo.
