All Saints

In response to geza's wishes for All Saint's Day, I thought I would give a small account of one of my own favorite saints. I know for some on my list, this is of no interest, so feel free to pass it by. For others, feel free to respond with some notes about a saint closest to you.

Born to a peasant family, orphaned as a child, and raised by two older sisters. At age 21, she experienced a severe seizure of what may have been epilepsy. It was so severe as to be cateleptic, and she was thought to have died. During her funeral Mass, she suddenly recovered, and levitated to the roof of the church. Ordered down by the priest, she landed on the altar and stated that she had been to hell, purgatory, and heaven, and had been returned to earth with a ministry to pray for souls in purgatory ( ... )

Though I have always been a deeply spiritual person, I am also a deeply sensual person. I see God in all the stunning beauty of life. It was not that they were women that struck me, it was that they not only thought and wondered and questioned, but felt, and that was what brought me "proof", what inspired that faith. Faith in what, I don't know how to describe or classify, but I have felt a something.
Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179)
She lived in a convent from the time she was 8 years old, but did not write of her spiritual experinces until she was fourty. She was also an artist, illuminating her poems and writings. She was also an abess, a musician, healer, scientist, theologian, profet and mystic,
