After the accident, HSC was swamped. I had to clean out my own wounds (seriously) and having a concussion at the time, I guess I missed some of the glass. No one followed up on it. When the stitches were removed, and I felt the lump, at first they thought it might just be a haematoma from compacted bones in my hand and advised waiting to see if the body re-absorbed it. After a year, when it obviously wasn't re-absorbing, the doctor finally said they thought it might be glass instead. So...yeah...that's why :)
Makes me glad the doctor dug all the gravel out of my chin when I last received stitches. Having to dig debris from your own wounds while in shock or suffering a concussion is just asking for trouble.
