Often times I will tell my story and people say "Oh, what a shame. You're such an innocent victim of all this." or from the Catholic Church "Of course we accept you and welcome you, you're an innocent"... or "but you're different, AIDS came to you; you didn't go to it ( Read more... )

I think everyone has done something they regret later. Everyone has made mistakes. Some people sleep around or share needles and they don't get infected. Does that mean they should be placed on a higher pedestal than someone who had a night of indiscretion and got infected? Sometimes I think we human beings feel a need to stigmatize other human beings as being somehow inferior or unworthy or tainted - for whatever reason, HIV being so convenient - to the point where we even internalize it and do it to ourselves. "But you didn't do anything - I did."

I just found out that one of my friends was diagnosed with HIV, a result from a night of ill placed trust in a stranger. What's strange is that it feels like he is coping with the disease better than I am. I'm not trying to get too personal on you or anything, but I think your journal is a good source of comfort... not only for those who have HIV but for those who have friends living with the disease. Thank you.

By the way, I added you to my friends list.
