Even if he made a stupid decision, he made an informed stupid decision. And you aren't responsible for the stupidity of it...just the informed part. :)

What has been the point of my experiences if not to help others?
I don't know. Do they necessarily have to have a point, or a reason? Does HIV need justification for existence? Is the universe supposed to be just and fair? Big questions, babe, but that's where you're starting from with that question. :)

Who am I to go around and speak at all these great universities, to students and my peers about safer sex when I can't even make a difference in my own friend's life? If I can't convince my friend to be a little more knowledgeable and cautious what makes me think I can influence the minds of people that don't even know me outside of the couple hours I speak at their school?The tricky bit is being able to catch people at just the right moment, and sometimes you can do that for a stranger even when you can't do it for a friend. I have this problem working in prevention as well... we don't have to have our house entirely in order before we help someone else's, and we don't have to live flawlessly in order to help someone else live better. It sounds like hearing your friend's casual attitude would be irritating, as well as scary, but it's not a reflection on you. Keep working ( ... )
