Well, they haven't been making new episodes since 2006, but Reading Rainbow is going to the big library in the sky. I watched it a great deal as a child, and because (forgive me, nerds) I never actually watched Star Trek, only knew Levar Burton through this. I'll always remember that they did the teleporter effects with glitter

That episode of Reading Rainbow with the glitter explanation is directly responsible for me being a trekkie. I'm sure I would have eventually discovered it another way, given my nerd tendencies, but it's fun to say that it's all Levar Burton's fault.
