Seems like Wayne is disconnected from the reality that there are some people who use the library because that is the only resource available to them. Not to mention (I assume) that I could read your letter to the editor in the library, and not the internet... I suppose that means the Wayne might not see it unless someone points it out to him. =)

The real question is not how good a library can be.
The real question is how much violence you are willing to see enacted upon anyone who does not wish to pay for such library.
If the aim is to improve the community with a library, you can do it in two ways: peacefully, by soliciting voluntary donations -- or by bonds and taxation, in which case anyone who does not pay will eventually be confronted by men with guns on their hips.

Ummm . . . no. You didn't see the original letter, but the question WAS the good a library can do, which this gentleman was clearly missing by calling it a "big box" and a "mausoleum." As I stated in my letter, I wasn't even talking about the issue of taxation at all. I was taking issue with his calling the library a thing of the past, not whether or not he wanted to pay taxes for it.

I know most people do not connect public works projects with gun threats. But it is a direct, causal relationship that should not be ignored.
