Sap, D/G Recs, & Strange Ways

Right, so I just bawled my eyes out watching the last half an hour of Armageddon on TV. I don't care if the movie is cheesy and clearly for entertainment, it moved me, dammit. And I love Billy Bob Thorton and Jason Isaacs in the film. Hardcore nerds. Gotta love that!

Yesterday, I Am Sam was on TV, and I cried watching that, too. And last week, ( Read more... )

Ohhh, Leila, this was extremely powerful. And I think that the "strung together" quality suits it perfectly. It emphasises the uncertainty and wispy nature of the subject matter. Harry is one moment smiling, one moment going nearly mental with grief, one moment bitter and the next moment empty. And this was a well put-together series of these small moments. Granted, I don't think the Sirius/Ginny element is really necessary, as you say. But you have hit on a lot of poignant ideas in this fic, and I like it. As usual, the writing is so natural. I think this piece is excellent. ;)

Gahh. Must confess it is so reassuring to hear you say that. I think I felt that way towards this fic because I'd been staring at it for so long that I just got sick of it :P As always, I totally value what you say, and thank you! Yeah, the one I submitted to bitterbarbs - I took out the Ginny/Sirius part because it really wasn't crucial at all. While fun to write because I like the ship, was pointless :)

Anyway, thank you very much!

Aw, Leila, thanks. To be included on that list, in such exalted company? You're too sweet. *hugs*

*is satisfied* Now you have an inkling of how much I'm loving "Slow Burn" and practically everything you write ('specially the Bill/Pansy WIP) :)

I'm so wordy lately. *sighs* _citanul March 13 2005, 16:47:29 UTC
This is most definitely not boring! It's lovely and incredibly weighted. I could feel the grief and sorrow throughout - it's quite pressing. And the ending was just the perfect amount of closure and non-closure (yes, I'm TRYING to be as confusing as possible XD).

Harry blinked in the darkness, his hand reaching out for the light switch before he remembered that he was at Number 12 Grimmauld Place, and there were no light switches to flip.

I love that you included this. =)

Sirius was old enough to understand responsibility, but he was also old enough to understand that when someone wanted comfort, he would give it.

That's a FANTASTIC line. I really liked the Ginny/Sirius aspect of this (Hee! Of course!). I liked getting Sirius' view on the relationship, and it didn't take away from Harry's pain later on. But it definitely made me feel like there's a whole other story waiting to be told. :D

Your description is really beautiful here. These lines stayed with me:

Ginny Weasley passed in front of him with another tray, her ( ... )

The electricity thing irks me most in canon, at the Burrow for some reason. Not sure why.

As for genres, hmmmm... It depends on the character and the pairing I guess. I can't read Harry/Hermione angst for some reason, but I can read them both in angst if it's not based on their relationship.

Fred/Hermione appeals to me most when it's fairly light, but I have read angsty F/Hr by romanticalgirl that is just so good that I can definitely see how the pairing has the potential for pain.

Sirius/Ginny I like nice and angsty I'm discovering. XD
Tom/Ginny I also like quite angsty.
Draco/Ginny, I haven't read anything completely angsty yet, but you're right, the pairing can easily fit into most genres.
I also really like James/Lily/Sirius love triangle that's quite angsty.

*ponders* That list makes it seem like I read a lot of angst, and I don't really. I'm not a fan of non-canon character deaths, so I tend to stay away from darkfic. I DO like a lot of humour in fic.

And you? Other than D/G, what do you like best fic-wise?

Yeah! I mean, granted the big Weasley clock is magic, but...I'm just all confused and fuzzy about how magic is their electricity. Or something. I dunno, it completely falls apart for me whenever I conciously think about it.

That makes sense, about the ship and genre being related. Gahh! I still haven't read romanticalgirl's F/Hr! Must get around to it, since at the moment, I still can't think of F/Hr as any genre except romance/humor fluff fics ( ... )

you finally did it... you made me cry.
this was ...lovely. at first, it was all over the place, but that wasnt a bad thing... it merely added to the charm of the peice overall.
and in this i can really see the characters. you've done such a wonderful job of showing different aspects of each by just their thoughts and actions.
I'm not much of a Sirius/Ginny shipper, but i liked Sirius's thoughts after waking.
and harry... everything about harry was perfect. so believable.
what really stood out to me was the scene in the house w/ harry as Sirius watched,
Maybe it was seeing Harry there, looking so much like James that Remus had noticed too, and Remus had had to glance away when Harry had laughed. Remus and Sirius dont have any 'actual' interaction in this, but even just in Sirius's thoughts, you've created an interesting dynamic between the two.

Harry didn’t look all right.
Harry was leaning back against nothing... i wondered if you did this intentionally. if you made it seem like he had lost the ability to fall back on his anger ( ... )
