Well, that was absolutely lovely. Just what a one-off Doctor Who should be! Big, bold, great character(s), fantastic settings and two amazing new aliens.
Some points:
Cracking plot, seriously!
I really, really loved Christina. The fact that she saw herself as the natural leader not the Doctor, being a thief, trusting the Doctor, being a TOTAL AND UTTER ADRENALINE JUNKIE and just being awesome! I liked her a lot more than I thought I would.
I can't believe the Doctor turned her down without even considering her. She really was fantastic and perfect and gah! Very different from ANY of the other companions (Rose, Martha and Donna, I mean) because of class and just that sheer thirst for adventure with nothing to hold her back. I wish she could have stayed.
I loved this dialogue:
Christina: But...you look human.
The Doctor: You look Time Lord.
Malcolm (Lee Evans) was also completely adorable, and the return of the UNIT General whose name I've forgotten from Turn Left - they were great together XD
The plot! Now those swarm thingies, that was a fantastic idea. Swarming on planets to feed on absolutely EVERYTHING. How they ate through everything on the entire planet and then kept swarming round and round and round to create wormholes. How that was revealed was excellent, even though I'd suspected it. And the clicking Tritovores! SO great.
FLYING BUS! Very Harry Potter, I loved it :D
That episode made me realised how much I have missed the show. It was so much better than The Next Doctor, frankly, though that could just be because I've only seen TND once. But anyway. This has reminded me why I love the show to pieces and why it has been so special to me over the past four years of my life. Just the sheer excitement pinning me to my seat and the love of being carried away on adventure so bold.
I am blissfully happy at present. And angling for more. The Waters of Mars, anyone?
ETA: (23rd April) - I just rewatched it. It's still goddamn awesome :D
